TOLEDO, Ohio – In the first end of a home-and-home series, the Metro Jets doubled up the Toledo Cherokee 4-2 Friday night at the Team Toledo IceHouse.
Nick Ceccarini scored twice for the Jets, while Jaylen Dziegelewski and Joey Bruce notched singles in the win.
“We carried the play for most of the game and credit to their goalie (Mason Snyder) – he made some big saves and kept his team in the game,” said Jets associate coach Jamie Lovell. “We need to do a better job finishing opportunities and closing out games. We can’t let teams hang around like we did tonight. I wasn’t happy with our third period giving up that late goal. It is not how we wanted to head into tomorrow night’s game with them.
“I expect our guys to learn from it and be ready to play because we know Toledo will be.”
Brian Tallieu made 22 saves in goal to secure the win for Metro.
For Toledo, Jake Rhodes and Spencer Sandberg scored and Snyder finished with 38 saves.
“In tonight’s game, we had a lot of good offensive plays and opportunities,” said Jets defenseman Devlin Macaulay. “We did a good job of controlling the play for the most part but also made some crucial mistakes that can’t happen, and we need to clean up.
“For tomorrow night, I’m expecting a push from Toledo, but if we build off our offensive opportunities and play our simple game cutting down on unnecessary breakdowns, then we can shut them down early and take control.”
The two teams meet again tomorrow night at Fraser Hockeyland with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.
Streaming of the game will be available on www.HockeyTV.com.
