USPHL Detroit Showcase another top-notch commitment from entire Jets organization

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – The annual USPHL Detroit Showcase is always a weekend of competitive hockey under one roof at Mount Clemens Ice Arena, home of the Metro Jets.

The 2025 edition of the event was certainly no exception as 40 games were played Nov. 21-24 in the USPHL Premier and USPHL Elite divisions with 14 teams competing.

“On behalf of the Jets family, we would like to thank the staff, volunteers and everyone in a Jets logo for representing our organization with class and professionalism,” said Jets GM Justin Quenneville. “The Detroit showcase is always a marquee event for the league and once again was a huge success. So much time and effort go into something this size and none of it is possible without everyone’s commitment. In fact, the league recognized our event again and we set another record for scouts that attended over all four days.

“We want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and look forward to getting back on the ice after the break.”

All three Jets teams played four games each at the event, in addition to an ACHA Division 1 game Friday night between Hope College and Indiana Tech University, a game the Flying Dutchmen won 4-1.

MJDP, Jets Elite sweep in weekend road series in Chicago; Jets dominate Cincinnati Friday night

LOCKPORT, Ill. – This past weekend, all three Metro Jets teams took to the road, with the Jets playing a single game in Cincinnati and the MJDP and Jets Elite teams playing three games each against the Chicago T-Rex.

The Jets Elite team won all three from the new Summit Ice and Sports Complex in Lockport, Ill.

Friday night, Ryan Jacobson scored two goals and goaltender Brendan Dreisbach made 16 saves in a 5-2 win.

Conor Mulligan posted a goal and an assist and Aidan RaCosta and Graysen LaPrise also scored.

Tyler Dix and Noah Chambers then scored two goals each and Jesse Lee made 21 saves in net in an 8-1 win Saturday night.

Carson Stomp and Braden Graham each had a goal and an assist, RaCosta and Brody Jamruk scored, and Cameron Maxwell and Max Lee both recorded two assists.

Wrapping up Sunday in an 8-0 shutout, Jacobson scored two more, RaCosta tallied a goal and two assists, and goaltender Aiden Binkley stopped all seven shots fired his way.

Maxwell, Spencer Stanhope and Dimitry Aksenov all had a goal and an assist, Jayson Shores popped two helpers, and Stomp and Scott Dewar also scored in the win.

“Happy to have gotten all six points,” said Jets associate coach Danny Vanderwiel. “I think the group is really starting to come together and guys are getting more comfortable with each other and it is showing on the ice. Back-to-back weekends on the road is tough, but I felt we did a good job managing it. Really happy for Binkley getting his first junior shutout. I thought all three of our goalies gave us the stops we needed.

“Excited to get to work this week and amped up for our Detroit showcase.”

Also from Lockport, the MJDP equaled their Jets teammates, gaining all six points against the T-Rex.

Starting out Friday night, Clovis Gamelin scored twice and Lucas Benavides-Forte tallied two assists in a 4-2 victory.

Chris Kobayashi and Grady Smith added goals for the MJDP with goalie Arnaud Paradis making 22 saves.

Saturday night, Kobayashi registered two goals and an assist, Benavides-Forte and Noah Bodurka added a goal and two assists each in an 8-4 win.

Gamelin, Smith, Stanhope and Paulius Uzuslenis added goals, Thomas LeBlanc and Liam Smith notched two assists apiece and Cooper Langley finished with 32 saves in goal.

In the Sunday finale, a 6-3 win, Bodurka scored two more goals and Cam Cyrus made 20 saves between the pipes.

Daniell Luska went for a goal and an assist, Gamelin and Blake Brackett scored, and Liam Smith chipped in a goal and an assist. Donald Pratt and Maurizio Boskovich tacked on two assists each.

“Winning on the road is tough at this level,” said Jets associate coach Jake Howie. “Props to our guys going down to Chicago and taking all three games. Was nice to see a little bit of an offensive explosion, but there’s still plenty of things to fix. Certainly still need to get better in our own end, along with some better back pressure to cut down the oppositions transition game, but we’ve made good strides so far this year and I’m excited to see what this group can do.”

In their lone game of the weekend, the Jets routed the Cincinnati Jr. Cyclones 11-0 Friday night on the road from the Queen City Sportsplex.

Philip Hall pitched a 17-save shutout, while Luka Pivec scored two goals with three assists and Ryan Glomboske tacked on four assists.

AJ Zaccagni went for two goals and an assist and Ayden Hartzell, Sutton Majeske, Caleb Simpson and Owen Coulter all had a goal and an assist.

Gabe Outman, Isaac Bunk and Jaxon Stone scored one each and captain Jake Taylor posted three assists.

Up next for all three teams is the annual USPHL Detroit Showcase Nov. 21-24 from Mount Clemens Ice Arena. The teams will play four games each over the duration of the event, now in its seventh season.

‘Disappointing’ weekend sees Jets swept by Toledo; MJDP takes 5 of 6 in Chicago; Jets Elite gains shootout win over Crush

LOCKPORT, Ill. – This past week’s action across all three Metro Jets teams did not yield the results the organization has come to know over the years.

The Jets were swept in a home-and-home series by the Toledo Cherokee, who claimed the Coney Cup as season champions, while the MJDP took five of six points on the road against the Chicago Crush and the Jets Elite managed a shootout win over the Crush.

The action started Wednesday as the Jets Elite team defeated the Motor City Gamblers 4-3 in a shootout from Big Boy Arena in nearby Fraser.

Goaltender Aiden Binkley earned his first junior hockey win with 15 saves.

Graysen LaPrise scored two goals and Tyler Dix posted the other.

Friday night back at Mount Clemens Ice Arena, Toledo defeated the Jets 4-2.

Owen Coulter and AJ Zaccagni scored for the Jets and Evan Peacock stopped 33 shots in goal.

Then in the rematch Saturday night at the Team Toledo IceHouse, goaltender Jakub Obzera made 34 saves as the Jets lost 4-3 in a shootout.

Joel Paterson, Aidan Charron and Ayden Hartzell scored in regulation for the Jets.

“It’s disappointing,” Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell. “We had a very good opportunity this weekend to separate ourselves from the pack and we couldn’t take advantage. Very inconsistent in a lot of areas and it’s frustrating because these are all things that we have addressed each week during practices, skills sessions and video.

“We need to develop more of a ‘hate to lose’ mentality but it seems to be taking a little longer for this group to develop than in years past.”

The MJDP and Jets Elite teams played in the new Summit Ice & Sports Complex in suburban Chicago, each playing the Crush in a three-game series.

Friday night, Clovis Gamelin and Donald Pratt scored and Arnaud Paradis made 24 saves in a 3-2 shootout loss.

Daniell Luska then tallied the overtime winner Saturday night in a 3-2 victory.

Lucas Benavides-Forte and Blake Brackett also scored and Cam Cyrus stopped 21 shots between the pipes.

Sunday night, Caleb Curto and Noah Bodurka scored and Cyrus turned aside 20 shots in a 2-1 win.

“Excellent weekend for this group going on the road and getting five out of six points,” Jets associate coach Jake Howie said. “It was a very physical and hard-fought weekend, but props to our guys just battling through and finding a way to win games. Ultimately, I thought we were the better team and carried the play most of the weekend, so it’s good to see the guys get rewarded for their work.”

The Jets Elite started the Windy City trip with a 2-1 shootout win Friday night.

LaPrise scored the lone regulation goal and Brendan Dreisbach made 31 saves in net.

Then Saturday afternoon, Chicago took a 3-1 win.

Carson Stomp scored the Jets’ only goal and Dreisbach finished with 27 saves.

In the finale Sunday afternoon, the Crush won 3-1 again.

Donald Pratt recorded the Jets’ goal and Paradis kicked out 29 shots.

Four road games, four road wins this past week for Jets, MJDP, Jets Elite teams

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – It was a clean sweep as all three Metro Jets teams collected wins over the four games this past week.

The Jets Elite team started it off Wednesday with a 2-0 win at the PSM Icehouse against the host Fort Wayne Spacemen.

Brendan Dreisbach made 25 saves in goal and Liam Smith and Noah Chambers supplied the offense.

“I think we did a good job sticking to the details we discussed this past week in practice,” Jets associate coach Danny Vanderwiel said. “I felt we had a great first and third period and we survived the second. I thought our PK did the job when we needed it to.

“Happy to get the two points and obviously looking forward to next weekend’s showcase.”

Fort Wayne goalie Austin Schaertel stopped 25 shots.

Also Wednesday at Fort Wayne, the Jets scored two goals in the third period to take a 5-3 win over the Spacemen, ending their 12-game winning streak to start the 2025-26 season.

Sutton Majeske had a goal and an assist, while Luka Pivec, Owen Coulter, Jaxon Stone and Ryan Glomboske scored one each to back Jakub Obzera’s 27 saves between the pipes.

Tyler Fleming chipped in two assists.

“Very happy with the effort today,” Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell said. “That’s a good road win against a really good opponent who had been playing very well lately. We challenged the guys to take pride in making simple plays and not doing ‘the extra’ as we like to coin it. And they did that for the better part of the game. We got away from that in the second period and obviously we saw what happened, giving up three goals and losing our lead going into the third period.

“We responded with a solid third period, our PP came through for us again tonight and Jakub made some big saves. Fort Wayne has some skilled offensive players, so it was tough at the end there, but we did the job.”

For Fort Wayne, Robert Gross, Dylan Davis and Mikhail Gorbunov scored and goaltender Gleb Rakov turned aside 36 shots.

Friday at The Rink Battle Creek, Noah Bodurka scored late in the third period to snap a 2-2 tie and give the MJDP team a 3-2 win over the Battle Creek Kernels.

“Tonight’s win is a full team win,” said Jets associate coach Jake Howie. “The final 40 minutes, I thought we were solid in almost every aspect of the game. Completely controlled the flow of the game and when we gave up a chance, (Arnaud) Paradis was there to make the save. It was a full 22-man effort tonight and happy for these guys to come home with two points.”

Liam Smith posted a goal and an assist and Aidan Rebone also scored for the MJDP. Paradis finished with 26 saves.

For the Kernels, Arkadiusz Sobesto and Logan Taylor scored in the first period to give Battle Creek and early 2-0 lead and goalie Galvin Reagan made 40 saves.

Wrapping up the weekend Saturday back in Battle Creek, the Jets dominated in an 8-1 win over the Kernels.

Pivec tallied two goals and an assist, Sandro Evangelista added two goals and captain Jake Taylor chipped in a goal and two helpers.

“I would say that was probably our most complete game we’ve played so far this season,” Lovell said. “Everyone bought in to doing the little things well and we were very consistent on those details each shift. It was also nice to see some players get rewarded with goals who haven’t been on the scoresheet much this season.

“We want to keep this going and continue to build on these positive habits.”

Chase Martin and Gabe Outman each had a goal and an assist, Fleming also scored, and Stone collected three assists. Aidan Charron and Ryder Novock tacked on two assists apiece as goalie Philip Hall made 19 saves.

Josh Getson broke up Hall’s shutout bid 10:29 into the third period and Battle Creek goalies Jaxon Sibell and Leighton Rindock combined on 49 saves.

Next week, the Jets play the MJDP at Mount Clemens Ice Arena Wednesday at noon and then host the Bearcat Hockey Club Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m.

The MJDP heads to the USPHL Midwest Showcase in Fort Wayne, playing the Hampton Roads Whalers Friday at 11 a.m., the Columbus Mavericks Saturday at 9:10 a.m., the Cincinnati Jr. Cyclones Saturday at 3:10 p.m. and then the Chicago T-Rex Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

The Jets Elite team is also at the USPHL Midwest Showcase, playing the Chicago Cougars Friday at 3 p.m., the Chicago Crush Saturday at 11 a.m., the Red River Spartans Saturday at 9:10 p.m. and then the Gamblers Hockey AAA Sunday at 9 a.m.

Jets Elite wins home opener over Fort Wayne; Jets split with Red River on road; MJDP falters against Spacemen

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – Just four games were on the schedule this past week, and two of them amounted to two points for Metro Jets teams.

Starting the action on Wednesday, the Jets Elite team defeated the Fort Wayne Spacemen 3-2 in a shootout at Mount Clemens Ice Arena to gain a victory in the team’s home opener.

Dimitry Aksenov and Connor Stamp scored 1:24 apart early in the third period and after nothing was settled in overtime, the Jets earned the extra point winning the shootout.

“Good comeback win for the boys,” Jets associate coach Danny Vanderwiel said. “Was grateful to push OT, even more grateful to get the ‘W.’ Nothing like coming from behind and getting the two points, especially in the home opener. I think our younger guys are starting to settle in a little bit more and have some more confidence.

“Still plenty that we can clean up and we are excited to get back to work the rest of the week dialing in on those details.”

Jets goaltender Brendan Dreisbach made 24 saves in the win.

For Fort Wayne, Braedon Rasinskis and Cameron Rees scored and netminder Aiden Karst finished with 39 saves.

In the second game of the afternoon, Fort Wayne doubled up the MJDP team by an 8-4 count.

Noah Bodurka tallied two goals, Lucas Benavides-Forte and Clovis Gamelin one each, while goalies Cam Cyrus and Cooper Langley combined to make 28 saves.

Nikita Voloubiev scored three goals, Ivan Barnashov and Evan Wilson two each, and Robert Gross added one with goaltender Gleb Rakov making 29 saves.

In the Nashville area for a two-game set, the Jets split with the Red River Spartans at F & M Bank Arena in Clarksville, Tenn.

Friday night, Aidan Charron and Luka Pivec scored in a 5-2 setback.

Goalies Jakub Obzera and Philip Hall combined to make 22 saves. Hall also drew an assist on Pivec’s goal.

Jack Treacy had a goal and an assist for the Spartans, while Peyton Williams, Ryan Tucker McKinney, Greyson Betzold and Jett Jock also scored. Bryson Walz tacked on two assists and Hunter Oger made 34 saves in goal.

In the finale Saturday night, the Jets scored four in the third period to take a 7-5 win to earn a series split.

Pivec went for two goals and two assists, Charron added two goals and an assist, and Evan Peacock picked up the win in goal with a 22-save performance.

“I guess if we put it into perspective, we feel pretty good leaving for home on a winning note,” Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell said. “Had the games been reversed and we won the first game and lost the second, we’d feel a lot different, but I think we learned from a very poor first period to start the weekend off in the first game and finished with five pretty good ones after that.”

Jaxon Stone collected a goal and an assist and Ryan Glomboske and Alessandro Evangelista also netted goals. Captain Jake Taylor and Sutton Majeske registered two assists apiece.

For Red River, Sander Korrell had two goals and an assist, Jake Hayward, Ethan Smith and Jack Treacy one each, and Walz chipped in a pair of assists.

Oger finished with 41 saves.

“We still have a lot to work on and I don’t think we’re even close to reaching the potential and the standards that we set for this program,” Lovell said. “It’s going to take time, we’re young and in experienced, and it will be more of a challenge to us as a coaching staff to get these guys where we want them to be.

“It’s a challenge we all welcome.”

Next week, the Jets Elite plays at Fort Wayne Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., the MJDP is in Battle Creek Friday at 7 p.m., and the Jets play in Fort Wayne Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and Saturday in Battle Creek at 7 p.m.

Jets win both on home ice, MJDP earns first win of ’25-26 season, Jets Elite making improvements

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – Five games are in the books as all three Metro Jets teams were in action over the past week.

The Jets picked up two wins on home ice, the MJDP team notched its first win of the 2025-26 season, and the Jets Elite squad lost a close game on the road.

Kicking off the week Wednesday afternoon at the PSM Icehouse in Fort Wayne, Ind., Will Smith scored two goals, Aidan RaCosta one, and Brendan Dreisbach made 30 saves in goal as the Jets Elite team fell 4-3 to the Fort Wayne Spacemen.

Emerson Swint and Alex Kryukov scored two goals each for Fort Wayne, Dylan Parks added two assists, and goalie Austin Schaertel stopped 32 shots for the win.

“It’s still early in the year and we have a lot of young players still finding their way,” Jets associate coach Danny Vanderwiel said. “Have to give credit where it’s due. That was a bit of a different Fort Wayne team than we played last week as they were coming off four wins and that was our second game of the year.

“Excited for the opportunity to keep working on our habits and details. There is plenty we can clean up.”

Also Wednesday in Fort Wayne, the Spacemen knocked off the MJDP with two late goals for a 5-3 win.

Ronnie Lubbers, Paulius Uzusienis and Lucas Benavides-Forte scored for the Jets and Arnaud Paradis turned aside 27 shots in goal.

“I thought we took major steps in the right direction today and that our overall 200-foot game was substantially better today than it had been in our first two games,” said Jets associate coach Jake Howie. “Unfortunately, ‘close’ and ‘almost’ doesn’t get you anything in hockey and those are the games that you just have to push over the finish line. Quite a few positives we can build off of today, though, and some things we can use as teaching moments to grow from.”

Bogdan Vysotsky potted two goals for Fort Wayne, Nikita Voloubiev had a goal and an assist, and Evan Wilson and Rylan Wempe scored one apiece.

Spacemen goalie Sumner Wood made 34 saves.

Friday back at Mount Clemens Ice Arena, the Jets and MJDP played a matinee double header.

The Jets defeated the Battle Creek Kernels 8-2 in the opener and then the MJDP came from behind to beat the Fresh Coast Freeze 5-3 in the second game.

Luka Pivec scored two goals with two assists, Jaxon Stone added two goals and an assist, Aidan Charron popped a goal and two assists, and Ayden Hartzell notched a goal and an assist to back Jakub Obzera’s 26 saves in goal for the Jets.

Isaac Bunk and Cory Anderson also scored, captain Jake Taylor posted three assists, and Jayden Provencher and Gabe Outman recorded two assists apiece

For Battle Creek, AJ Prioli scored both goals, Ethan Miller assisted on both, and goaltender Galvin Reagan finished with 37 saves.

Down 3-2 to the Freeze after 40 minutes, the MJDP rallied with three goals in the third period to grab the win.

Benavides-Forte scored two goals with an assist, Blake Brackett, Caleb Curto and Jarrett LaGrow also scored, and Cam Cyrus and Paradis combined to make 17 saves between the pipes.

Ben McClaine and Daniell Luska had two assists each.

Shaun Stevens recorded a goal and an assist for Fresh Coast, while Charles Huntoon and Emersen Lippert each scored and Logan Eshelman added two assists.

Fresh Coast goaltender Colin Porn made 47 saves.

“I didn’t think we had our best stuff for the large part of the game today, but props to our guys for battling and sticking with it to get two points,” said Howie. “Winning at this level is never easy, but it was good to get the first win on the year and now we can build and keep getting better on a daily basis.”

Wrapping up the weekend Saturday night, the Jets and goaltender Philip Hall blanked Fresh Coast 8-0 at Mount Clemens Ice Arena.

Hall made 13 saves and Ryan Glomboske scored three goals, Joel Paterson a pair of goals, and Stone a goal and three assists.

Pivec added four assists, Taylor a goal and two assists, Ryder Novock a goal and an assist and Provencher and Tyler Fleming registered two assists apiece.

Freeze goalie Jakob VanZweden made 58 saves.

Next week, the Jets travel to Nashville for two with the Red River Spartans Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 6 p.m. The MJDP hosts Fort Wayne Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. and the Jets Elite hosts Fort Wayne Wednesday at 12:15 p.m.

Anderson scores twice, but Columbus downs Jets Friday night in a game ‘completely uncharacteristic of what we pride ourselves in with this program’

LEWIS CENTER, Ohio — For the first time since joining the USPHL in 2019, the Columbus Mavericks defeated the Metro Jets Friday night, taking a 5-4 win at the OhioHealth Chiller North.

Brian Savage’s second goal of the game with 1:16 to play in the third period stood as the game winner for the Mavericks.

“Tonight was a tough game to stomach because there were just so many mistakes,” said Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell. “Completely uncharacteristic of what we pride ourselves in with this program, but we get to take this and learn from it and, hopefully, be so much better for it.”

Cory Anderson scored two goals for the Jets, who led 3-1 after the first period. Gianluca Virelli had a goal and an assist and Jaxon Stone also scored.

Evan Peacock finished with 36 saves in goal, suffering the loss.

Jets Elite opens ’25-26 with shutout in Fort Wayne; Jets down Toledo, Columbus; MJDP falters against Spacemen

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – All three Metro Jets teams were in action last weekend, with the Jets getting two wins at home and the Jets Elite team picking up a win on the road.

The Jets continued their rivalry with the Toledo Cherokee Friday night at Mount Clemens Ice Arena, earning a hard-fought 5-3 win before edging the Columbus Mavericks 2-1 Saturday afternoon.

In the opener, AJ Zaccagni scored twice, and captain Jake Taylor and Jaxon Stone posted two assists apiece to back Evan Peacock’s 27-save outing in goal.

Peacock, who also had an assist in the game, relieved Philip Hall early in the first period with Toledo up 2-1.

“It’s always a good game between these two teams, and tonight was more of the same,” Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell said. “We have a lot of new players who haven’t had the privilege to experience the rivalry with Toledo yet, so now they see what it’s all about and what it takes to win these games.

“There was a lot of emotion in the game tonight, and it was only game 1 of the season.”

Aidan Charron, Gabe Outman and Ryder Novock added goals for the Jets.

For Toledo, Jacob Myers scored twice, and Hank Davis added a goal and an assist.

Cherokee goalie Daxton Lucidi stopped 32 shots in the loss.

Against Columbus, Sutton Majeske and Alessandro Evangelista scored for the Jets and Hall collected 28 saves.

Alex Brown scored for the Mavericks and Jonah Little finished with 39 saves between the pipes.

“We will take the two points from this game, and that’s about all the positives we can take,” Lovell said. “After last night’s emotional win against Toledo, I expected us to perhaps not be as sharp tonight, but I was hoping our players would prove me wrong. We did not play well at all but somehow managed to still win. Have to credit Philip Hall for doing his job tonight and making saves when we needed them.

“It’s a good start to the season, but still a lot of learning and development to come, starting this week in practice.”

The Jets are in Columbus this Friday night for an 8 p.m. faceoff from the OhioHealth Chiller North.

Saturday afternoon, Cooper Langley stopped all 13 shots fired his way as the Jets Elite started the season with a 2-0 win against the Fort Wayne Spacemen from the PSM Icehouse in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Dimitry Aksenov and Will Smith found the net for the Jets.

Fort Wayne goalie Austin Schaertel took the loss for the Spacemen.

“I thought we did a great job executing a lot of the details we worked on these past few weeks, and I thought we did well managing our emotions and jitters given it was our first game,” said Jets associate coach Danny Vanderwiel. “We got the saves that we needed, which is always a positive. Obviously have things that we need to clean up, but the work has only just begun.

“I think it will be a fun year.”

The MJDP team was also in Fort Wayne, falling 8-1.

Clovis Gamelin scored the lone goal and goaltender Arnaud Paradis made 52 saves.

Nikita Voloubiev, Mikhail Gorbunov, Bogdan Vysotsky and Evan Wilson all potted two goals each for Fort Wayne.

Spacemen netminder Gleb Rakov fashioned a 27-save performance.
