Jets make record eighth straight trip to USPHL Nationals, eliminated after round robin play

WAYNE, N.J. – The Metro Jets made their USPHL-record eighth consecutive trip to the USPHL National Championships this past week, playing in the event at the Ice Vault in Wayne, N.J.

Unfortunately, the season ended Friday night for the Jets after going 1-2 in the round robin, losing to the Toledo Cherokee and Northern Cyclones and defeating the Fort Wayne Spacemen.

Opening up play on Wednesday, Toledo took a 4-3 win as Charlie Nolette scored twice in the first period and the Cherokee held off a late push from Metro to secure the win.

Jets rally with pair of road overtime wins to knock off Toledo, claim USPHL Great Lakes Division title

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Metro Jets are again off to the USPHL National Tournament.

Down 1-0 to the Toledo Cherokee in a best-of-3 Great Lakes Division playoff series from the Team Toledo Ice House, the Jets won the next two in overtime to win the division championship and earn an automatic berth to the national tournament March 25-29 at the Ice Vault in Wayne, N.J.

Ayden Hartzell scored the overtime winner 2:58 into extra time Sunday afternoon after Jets captain Jake Taylor and Isaac Bunk scored 27 seconds apart at 3:20 and 3:47 of the third period to erase a 2-0 Toledo lead.

Jets goalie Philip Hall finished with 32 saves, only allowing first-period goals to Brendon Hammer and Landon Wharton in the 3-2 win.

Toledo goalie Logan McGuire finished with 24 saves.

“Are you not entertained?” asked Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell. “When our two teams get together for a series, you know you’re going to see a great entertaining display of hockey. We believe Toledo is one of the best teams in our entire league every year, so we appreciate this victory even more. This year was no different. Toledo is an incredible team, but we believe in our model and our players. We have stuck with this group of players from Day 1 basically, making them better, developing them for these moments.

“We’re so proud of this group for the way they fought back in the series and in each of these last two elimination games. We’re not done yet, though. We’re battle tested now and need to take this experience with us into nationals.”

In the opener Friday night, Toledo won 6-2 as Charlie Nolette scored two goals and goalie Daxton Lucidi made 31 saves. Jacob Myers, Jay Cormier, Cameron Krause and Jimmy Monks added goals and Robert Leis put up two assists.

Sutton Majeske and Luka Pivec tallied the Jets goals and Hall posted 26 saves.

Saturday night, Jayden Provencher scored the winner 10:15 into overtime and also assisted on AJ Zaccagni’s goal in a 2-1 victory.

Hall stopped 44 shots

Leis scored the lone Toledo goal and McGuire finished with 35 saves.

Jets sweep Spartans, advance to Great Lakes final vs. Toledo; MJDP, Jets Elite teams bounced in division semifinals

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. — The Metro Jets defeated the Red River Spartans in two straight games at Mount Clemens Ice Arena over the weekend to move on to the USPHL Great Lakes Division championship series next weekend in Toledo.

In other weekend series, the MJDP team was swept by the Chicago T-Rex on the road at the Summit Ice Center in Lockport, Ill., and the Metro Jets Elite team was swept on the road by the Fort Wayne Spacemen at the PSM Icehouse in Fort Wayne, Ind., eliminating both teams from the postseason.

On home ice, the Jets won 8-5 Friday night and 6-1 Saturday night.

“Happy for our guys,” Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell said. “They played well and earned the right to play in the finals of our division. Red River is a very good team, and I don’t think the scores were indicative of how difficult it was to win both these games.

“We will enjoy this moment and get back to work Monday to prepare for the next test.”

In the opener, Jaxon Stone scored three goals and added an assist and Luka Pivec had a goal and three assists as goaltender Philip Hall finished with 23 saves.

Aidan Charron and Enrick Fournier each posted a goal and an assist and AJ Zaccagni and Ayden Hartzell scored one each.

For Red River, Bryson Walz recorded two goals and an assist and Sander Korrell and Jett Jock notched a goal and two assists apiece as Hunter Oger made 29 saves in goal. Hunter McKnight also scored.

Wrapping up Saturday night, Noah Bodurka tallied a goal and three assists and Ryan Glomboske added a goal and two assists to back Hall’s 21 saves.

Jets captain Jake Taylor had a goal and an assist and Zaccagni chipped in two assists. Sutton Majeske, Jayden Provencher and Pivec all scored one each.

Walz scored for the Spartans and Oger finished with 32 saves.

All games next weekend for the best-of-three series will be at the Team Toledo Ice House – Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday, if necessary, at 3:30 p.m. The winner will get an automatic berth to USPHL Nationals at the end of the month at the Ice Vault in Wayne, N.J.

In suburban Chicago, the MJDP fell 6-4 Friday night and 6-0 Saturday night.

“Tough weekend for the guys,” Jets associate coach Jake Howie said. “We just didn’t do enough of the little things this weekend to be successful, and that’s what playoff hockey comes down to. Proud of this group, though, for the year they had.

“Our model is all about development and every single guy in that room is not only a better hockey player, but a better young man as well from when they got here in September.”

Vince Pica and Cory Anderson both registered a goal with an assist and Caleb Simpson and Clovis Gamelin scored one each with goalie Logan D’Andrea stopped 30 shots.

Ilia Moskvin scored two goals for the T-Rex and Mikita Amelka added a goal and assist as netminder Austin Senay finished with 21 saves. Jason Gongol rang up three assists and Samuel Harper tacked on two assists.

Xavier Lafleur, Mack Olivier and Valentin Val Kurbos added goals for Chicago.

Finishing up Saturday, T-Rex goaltender Kiryl Zamana pitched a 47-save shutout.

Gongol went for two goals and an assist, Harper popped two goals, and Amelka had a goal and an assist. Damion Busch also scored and Moskvin recorded two assists.

Jets goalie Cam Cyrus turned aside 31 shots.

The Jets Elite started with a 3-1 setback Saturday afternoon before being eliminated with a 4-1 loss Sunday afternoon from the PSM Icehouse.

Conor Mulligan scored the lone goal for the Jets and Brendan Dreisbach made 38 saves between the pipes in the loss Saturday.

Kegan Power, Dylan Davis and Hayden Stratman scored for the Spacemen and goalie Austin Schaertel finished with 29 saves.

Sunday, Jarrett LaGrow scored and goaltender Arnaud Paradis made 23 saves.

For Fort Wayne, Power had a goal and two assists, Stratman, Jake Haydon and Camden Blauvelt added goals as goalie Aiden Karst collected 28 saves.

“First things first, it was an absolute pleasure to coach and work with this group this year,” Jets associate coach Danny Vanderwiel said. “I think we had a very close team, and it was a lot of fun to show up and work every day. Obviously, from a win-loss perspective, we didn’t get the ultimate result we were looking for. I don’t like to look at it that way, though. Yes, it is a team game, but it is a group of young individuals and the individual growth from start to finish is so noticeable and to me, it translates to on-ice team success and a competitive team night in night out. That is what makes it fun for me.

“I love my life, I love my job, and I could not be more blessed to be a part of the Jets organization. I look forward to turning my attention to the Jets now and seeing how far we can go.”

Last weekend of 2025-26 USPHL regular season sees Jets win twice, MJDP get shootout victory with playoffs on tap

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – The final weekend of the 2025-26 USPHL regular season is in the books.

Five games were played last weekend, four on home ice at Mount Clemens Ice Arena, as all three teams jockeyed for playoff positioning.

Starting off the weekend Thursday afternoon at home, the Jets Elite fell 4-0 to the Fort Wayne Spacemen Elite.

Braedon Rasinskis scored twice, Colsen White had a goal and an assist, and Hayden Stratman also scored for the Spacemen as goalie Austin Schaertel stopped all 18 shots he faced in the win.

Jets goaltender Arnaud Paradis made 44 saves.

Later Thursday afternoon in Mount Clemens, the MJDP lost 5-3 to Fort Wayne.

Ryan Jacobson went for a goal and an assist, Vincent Pica and Cory Anderson scored, and Logan D’Andrea stopped 28 shots between the pipes.

Aiden Byler scored two goals for Fort Wayne, Antoine Bonin had a goal and an assist, and Ivan Barnashov and Reid Hyde also scored. Nikita Volobuiev tacked on three assists and goaltender Sumner Wood registered 26 saves.

“For 54 minutes tonight, we played a really good game, but at this level, if you don’t commit to playing a full 60 minutes, you won’t get the results you’re looking for,” Jets associate coach Jake Howie said. “And today, that was the case. We took a couple minutes off and made some mistakes and credit to Fort Wayne. They capitalized and that was the difference in the hockey game.”

Another Friday double header at Mount Clemens saw the MJDP beat the Fresh Coast Freeze 4-3 in a shootout and the Jets shut out the Cincinnati Jr. Cyclones 7-0.

Liam Smith had a goal and an assist and Cameron Shaffer and Gianluca Virelli scored in regulation and goaltender Cam Cyrus turned aside 30 shots for the win.

Emersen Lippert posted a goal and an assist for the Freeze, while Charles Huntoon and Hayden Bilk added goals and Carson Riley tallied two assists as Matthew Brinkman made 33 saves in net.

“Fun hockey game to be a part of because it’s back and forth for both teams,” Howie said. “Proud of the guys for showing resilience and battling back. Especially in the third, I thought we were really good about just keeping the game simple and we’re able to battle out two points in a shootout. As we go forward, if we can commit to playing 60 minutes and doing the little things like blocking shots and getting pucks in, I think we’re a really tough out in playoff hockey.”

Finishing up Friday at home, Philip Hall pitched a 10-save shutout for the Jets and captain Jake Taylor recorded a goal and two assists in the win.

Daniell Luska rang up three assists, Sutton Majeske, AJ Zaccagni, Jaxon Stone and Alessandro Evangelista all had a goal and an assist, and Ryder Novock and Noah Bodurka scored one each.

Cincinnati goaltender Carson Balow made 53 saves.

The Jets wrapped the season Saturday afternoon at Griff’s Ice House West in Holland, Mich., downing the Freeze 4-2 on the back of a hat trick from Zaccagni.

Stone also scored and Evan Peacock stopped 20 shots in goal.

Huntoon and Brad Cook scored for the Freeze and goalie Jakob Van Zweden finished with 46 saves.

“Good to close the season with two wins,” Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell said. “We will give these guys a little break this week to recharge the batteries and prepare ourselves for the start of playoffs in two weeks.”

The USPHL playoffs start next week, with more information coming on all three Jets teams once schedules are finalized.

Weekend action sees Jets down Cincinnati, Jets Elite take four points at Chicago showcase, MJDP fall in Battle Creek

LOCKPORT, Ill. — The penultimate weekend of the 2025-26 USPHL season saw six games on the schedule between all three Metro Jets teams.

The Metro Jets fell at home Friday night to the Columbus Mavericks by a 5-2 count and then rebounded for a 7-1 win Sunday afternoon on the road over the Cincinnati Jr. Cyclones.

The MJDP lost 5-3 to the Battle Creek Kernels Friday night on the road and the Metro Jets Elite played a mini showcase in Chicago, shutting out the Fort Wayne Spacemen 3-0 Friday night, losing 3-2 to the Red River Spartans Saturday afternoon in a shootout, and then dropping a 2-1 overtime decision Saturday night to the Chicago Crush.

Starting the action Friday, Brendan Dreisbach pitched a 28-save shutout as the Jets Elite beat Fort Wayne 3-0 at the Summit Ice Center.

Elias Schwarzer, Grady Smith and Ronnie Lubbers scored in the win.

Fort Wayne goalie Austin Schaertel finished with 31 saves.

At The Rink Battle Creek, Cameron Shaffer had a goal and an assist and Cory Anderson and Blake Brackett scored one each as Cam Cyrus made 34 saves in goal for the MJDP team.

For the Kernels, Bogdan Guntypov had two goals and two assists, Arkadiusz Sobesto added a goal and two assists, Ty Cornett and Zach Wolf each tallied a goal and an assist, and goalie Galvin Reagan collected 41 saves.

“I thought the team played a pretty good game,” Jets associate coach Jake Howie said. “We put 44 shots on goal tonight and controlled most of the game, but the chances we were giving up in return were grade-A chances and odd-man rushes. It’s a bad combo to run into a hot goalie and give up odd-man chances the other way, one that makes winning tough.”

Back at Mount Clemens Ice Arena, Luka Pivec and Lucas Larson scored in the loss to Columbus as Jakub Obzera made 30 saves between the pipes.

Jan Sebastien Vancura scored three goals for the Mavericks, Ethan Alexander added a goal and an assist, Jameson Motyka chipped in three assists, and Tucker Kinnear also scored.

“Tough loss tonight,” Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell said. “We flat out got outplayed. It’s disappointing that we came out with an effort like that at this time of the year.”

Saturday in Chicago against the Spartans, Smith went for a goal and two assists, Braden Graham posted a goal and an assist, and goaltender Jesse Lee put up 23 saves. Conor Mulligan tacked on two assists.

Red River was led by two goals from Damian Murin and two assists from Ian Graber. Goalie Dominic Filzetti turned aside 55 shots.

Wrapping up the showcase, the Crush took an OT win Saturday night over the Jets Elite, Ramsey Paullo scoring the winner at 3:36 of extra time.

Jayson Shores netted the lone Jets goal and Dreisbach finished with 26 saves.

Joshua Yeates also scored for the Crush and goaltender Param Chawla made 20 stops.

“I think this weekend was a successful weekend,” Jets associate coach Danny Vanderwiel said. “It was a business trip and the boys treated it that way. Obviously, we’d love all six points, but we will take the four. It’s crunch time and I think if we play the way we have been, we will get the results we desire.”

Sunday afternoon at the Queen City Sportsplex, the Jets used two goals and two assists from AJ Zaccagni and a goal and two assists from Larson to get the two points in Cincinnati.

Evan Peacock made 17 saves in goal, while Noah Bodurka, Joel Paterson, Ayden Hartzell and Pivec added goals in the win.

Ilya Lutes scored the Cincinnati goal and goalie Carson Balow finished with 61 saves.

“We bounced back today with a good first period, so now we need to build off this going into the last weekend of the season,” said Lovell. “Still plenty to play for.”

Jets Elite team sweeps Cougars on home ice, MJDP takes two points from Cougars, Jets fall in Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Metro Jets Elite team dominated all three games this weekend, sweeping the Chicago Cougars Elite team at Mount Clemens Ice Arena in games playeds Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoon.

The Metro Jets and MJDP teams were also in action, the MJDP taking one in a three-game home series against the Cougars at Mount Clemens Ice Arena and the Jets dropping their single game on the road against the Toledo Cherokee.

Thursday, the Jets Elite cruised to a 12-3 win as Braden Graham scored three goals and Jarrett LaGrow added two goals and two assists.

Aidan RaCosta and Tyler Dix each posted a goal and two assists, Cameron Maxwell scored twice, and Ronnie Lubbers had a goal and an assist to back Brendan Dreisbach’s 18 saves in goal.

Sam Hanson and Dimitry Aksenov scored one each, Grady Smith and Miller Clure each tallied three assists, and Conor Mulligan, Noah Chambers, Jayson Shores and Graysen LaPrise all chipped in with a pair of helpers.

For the Cougars, Jack Martino and Dylan Kennedy both recorded a goal and an assist, Niko Dougan had two assists and Daniel Boduch also scored.

Chicago goaltenders Roman Steffeck and Ayden Wagner combined to make 35 saves.

Friday, Dix went for three goals, LaPrise two goals, and Connor Wheeler added three assists in a 9-2 win.

Lubbers had a goal and an assist and RaCosta, Ethan Laurain and Hanson posted one each to go along with two assists from LaGrow and Aksenov and 16 saves from Dreisbach.

Dougan notched a goal and an assist for the Cougars, while Matthew Corvo also scored and Wagner and Itamar David made 53 saves in net.

In the finale Saturday, Smith and Elias Schwarzer scored and Jesse Lee made 12 saves for the win in a 2-0 shutout.

David made 62 saves for the Cougars.

“I thought we did a great job executing in Game 1 and Game 2, but I think we could have done a better job executing in Game 3,” Jets associate coach Danny Vanderwiel said. “Happy to get the points. Those are critical at this time. We have four games left — all important games to win. I think if we decide to play our brand and our style, we will be fine down the stretch. If we choose to do our own thing and make it interesting, it could be a tough road for us.

“I have confidence in this group and I am excited to get back to work this week.”

For the MJDP team on Thursday, Ryan Jacobson and Cory Anderson scored and goaltender Cam Cyrus finished with 24 saves in a 4-2 setback.

Nazar Yakubyak, William Minarik, Spencer Kauke and Andrew Engstrom scored for Chicago and Charles Donoghue made 30 saves between the pipes.

On Friday, Jayden Provencher scored late in the third period and Logan D’Andrea made 24 saves, but the MJDP fell 4-1.

Kaden McElroy and Dominic Menna had a goal and an assist for Chicago, while Gavin Jones and Minarik also scored. Ryan Luchsinger and Alexander Pulkstenis added two assists apiece and goalie Aidan Wysoglad made 29 saves in goal.

The MJDP salvaged two points Saturday, defeating the Cougars 6-2 as Aidan Rebone collected a goal and two assists and D’Andrea made 20 saves.

Provencher and Liam Smith each added a goal and an assist, Blake Brackett, John Legebokoff and Clovis Gamelin scored, and Gianluca Virelli, Alex Fournier and Ben McClaine posted two assists each.

Kauke had a goal and an assist for the Cougars, Minarik also scored, and Donoghue stopped 28 shots.

“It was a tough start to the weekend Thursday and Friday,” said Jets associate coach Jake Howie. “I thought we actually played fairly good games, but it wasn’t enough ultimately. Saturday, though, was one of our best games of the year. For 60 minutes, we moved our feet, managed pucks, and played a solid 200-foot game. On top of it, we finally broke through and got some pucks to find the back of the net that the puck luck hadn’t let us have the last few weeks. When this team plays like that, they are very dangerous and can make a deep run in the playoffs.”

At the Team Toledo Ice House, Toledo took a 6-2 win over the Jets on Saturday night.

Ryan Glomboske and Luka Pivec scored and Philip Hall finished with 32 saves.

Jacob Myers tallied two goals and an assist for Toledo, Jimmy Monks added a goal and an assist, Charlie Nolette chipped in three assists, and Zachary Machoian, Robert Leis and Jay Cormier also scored as goalie Daxton Lucidi turned aside 39 shots.

“If there was a good way to lose a game 6-2, I think that was it,” Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell said. “It was a fun game to be a part of. I don’t think the score reflected the actual game and our effort. It’s too bad that we had a key decision go against us on our second goal to go up 2-0, but referees are human and they make mistakes, too. After reviewing the video, they admitted they were wrong, but can’t challenge it, so nothing we can do. That’s not why we lost the hockey game. but it certainly had an impact.

“We lost some of our composure on the bench after that call and that’s on me as a coach to keep my players focused on what matters. I didn’t do my job and ultimately the most costly mistake was one of our best players taking a major penalty while we were on the power play because he was frustrated and couldn’t keep it together. That was my job to get Jaxon Stone to stay focused and I blame myself for that. Not only does it take our chance on the power play away, but it puts us now on the PK and Toledo scores on it and they never look back. I’m very proud of how our team handled ourselves the entire game after that, especially in the third period.

“These are intense games and it’s fun to be a part of this rivalry.”

Eight road games, six road wins over busy weekend for Jets, MJDP, Jets Elite teams

LOCKPORT, N.Y. – All three Metro Jets teams hit the road this past weekend for eight games – three each played by the MJDP against the Chicago Cougars and Metro Jets Elite teams and two by the Jets against the Bearcat Hockey Club.

After all the buzzers sounded, the trio came home with six out of eight wins.

Starting out Friday at the Summit Ice Center in Lockport, Ill., the Jets Elite defeated the Cougars Elite team 8-1.

Grady Smith posted two goals and an assist, Graysen LaPrise a goal and an assist, and goalie Brendan Dreisbach made 14 saves.

Jarrett LaGrow, Connor Wheeler, Dimitry Aksenov, Ronnie Lubbers and Jayson Shores added goals, and Tyler Dix, Scott Dewar and Braden Graham recorded two assists each.

Nathan Galvan scored the lone goal for the Cougars and Itamar David and Ayden Wagner combined on 47 saves in the Cougars’ crease.

Also Friday at the Summit Ice Center, the Cougars downed the MJDP 5-4.

Alex Fournier scored two goals, Donald Pratt and Thomas LeBlanc one each, and Ben McClaine and Paulius Uzusienis chipped in two assists apiece.

Goaltender Cam Cyrus stopped 31 shots.

Nazar Yakubyak had a goal and an assist for the Cougars, while Kaden McElroy, Spencer Kauke, Tyler Rentner and William Minarik scored one each.

Charles Domaracki posted three assists, Ryan Luchsinger two helpers, and Aidan Wysoglad made 22 saves.

Saturday, the Jets Elite kicked off the day with an 8-3 win over the Cougars.

Lubbers registered three goals and an assist, Aksenov went for a goal and two assists, and Gavin Otto tacked on a goal and an assist.

Smith, Max Lee and Ethan Laurain scored goals, Aidan RaCosta, Graham and Dewar had two assists apiece, and Jesse Lee made 13 saves in goal.

For Chicago, Nick Donarski, Brody Luzbetak and Dominik Kocman scored and goaltenders Cooper Adams and Michael Poulik made 58 saves.

The MJDP then rebounded for a 4-2 win over the Cougars.

Cory Anderson popped two goals and Clovis Gamelin and Lucas Benavides scored one goal each. Aidan Rebone collected two assists.

Logan D’Andrea finished with 22 saves between the pipes.

Kauke scored the two goals for Chicago and Wysoglad turned aside 18 shots.

Wrapping up Saturday, the Jets knocked off the Bearcats 4-1 at Cornerstone CFCU Arena in Lockport, N.Y., a Buffalo suburb.

Sutton Majeske had a goal and an assist, Gabe Outman, Tyler Fleming and AJ Zaccagni one goal each, and Jakub Obzera made 15 saves in net.

Nathan Dunn had the Beracats goal and goalie Deagan Rathburn stopped 39 shots.

On Sunday, the Jets Elite notched the weekend sweep with a 7-3 win over Chicago.

LaPrise tallied two goals and an assist, Smith two goals and an assist, and Lee made seven saves for the win in goal.

Lubbers, Graham and RaCosta all had a goal and an assist. Aksenov tacked on two helpers.

For the Cougars, Galvan posted a goal and an assist and Eric Alcazar and Junior VanderVelpen added goals as Wagner collected 74 saves.

“This weekend was a business trip and we treated it that way,” said Jets associate coach Danny Vanderwiel. “Our guys did a great job executing things we worked on this past week. If we continue to play that way down the stretch, I think we will be happy with the results. Looking forward to getting back to work this week.”

The MJDP suffered a 3-0 setback to the Cougars Sunday as goalie Charles Donoghue stopped all 27 shots fired his way.

Kauke, McElroy and Cameron Twadell scored for the Cougars.

Arnaud Paradis made 24 saves between the pipes in the loss.

“Winning on the road is never easy at this level and we experienced that firsthand this weekend,” Jets associate coach Jake Howie said. “The guys played well Friday night, but we shot ourselves in the foot with penalties. Saturday was our most complete game and came away with two points. Sunday, we just came out a little asleep and dug a hole that wasn’t recoverable. We got better as the game went on, but you need to compete for 60 minutes if you want to get the job done.”

For the Jets on Sunday, Alessandro Evangelista and Aidan Charron scored and Philip Hall made 13 saves in net as the Jets earned the sweep with a 2-1 win.

Derek Johnson tallied the Bearcat goal and Rathburn finished with 46 saves.

“I think we would have liked a better offensive output, but any time you can go on the road for two games and come home with four points is a good weekend,” Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell. “Credit to our goaltending for staying focused and making the key save when we needed them to. It’s not easy to play in games like this with long stretches between shots, but ‘OB’ and ‘Philly’ were up to the task.”

Quartet of games sees Jets upend Freeze, Kernels, while MJDP beats Spacemen, Jets Elite falls to Spacemen

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Just four games were on the schedule this past for the trio of Metro Jets teams, with three being played Wednesday afternoon.

Of the four games, three resulted in two points for Jets teams.

In the first game Wednesday, the Jets Elite fell to the Fort Wayne Spacemen Elite 2-1 at Mount Clemens Ice Arena.

Graysen LaPrise scored the lone goal for the Jets and Arnaud Paradis made 22 saves between the pipes.

“The boys played a good game today and probably deserved better than to take a loss, but in this game, almost isn’t enough,” Jets associate coach Jake Howie said. “We’re at a point in the year where it’s either do or do not. And for as well as we played, Fort Wayne made one more play than we did today.”

Cameron Rees and Braedon Rasinskis scored for Fort Wayne, Dylan Davis assisted on both, and goaltender Austin Schaertel finished with 27 saves.

The second game of the day in Mount Clemens saw the MJDP edge Fort Wayne 4-3.

Jayden Provencher had a goal and an assist, while Spencer Stanhope, Liam Smith and Caleb Simpson scored to back goaltender Logan D’Andrea’s 36 saves.

“I thought this was one of our better 60-minute efforts on the year,” Howie said. “Got some big offensive contributions from our ‘D’ corps today and Logan was absolutely stellar in the net when we needed him to be. And honestly, it’s a big confidence boost win as we’ve struggled with Fort Wayne this year. It’s good to see the work pay off and show the guys coming down the stretch they are in every game.”

Antoine Bonin recorded a goal and an assist and Bogdan Vysotsky and Ivan Barnashov added goals for Fort Wayne as Sumner Wood made 20 saves in net for the Spacemen.

Wrapping up the afternoon, the Jets defeated the Fresh Coast Freeze 6-1 from Griff’s Ice House West in Holland.

Luka Pivec paced the attack with two goals and two assists, Ayden Hartzell added a goal and an assist and AJ Zaccagni posted two goals to go along with a single from Isaac Bunk.

“I thought we did a great job managing the situation,” Jets associate coach Danny Vanderwiel said. “Tough start, but once everyone got a shift or two in, we were fine. We played the right way and kept it simple for the most part.”

Daniell Luska and Aidan Charron registered two assists each and goaltender Philip Hall earned the win in goal making 22 saves

Emersen Lippert scored the first goal of the game for the Freeze and goalie Jakob Van Zweden collected 67 saves.

Finishing out the slate, the Jets downed the Battle Creek Kernels 7-1 Saturday night from The Rink Battle Creek.

Hartzell scored two goals with an assist, Jaxon Stone had a goal and three assists, and Charron and Ryan Glomboske each recorded a goal and an assist to back Evan Peacock’s 30 saves in goal.

Evan Cote and Owen Coulter added goals for the Jets.

For the Kernels, Zach Wolf scored and Galvin Reagan and Kaiden Hood combined on 59 saves in the Battle Creek net.

“We made some nice heads-up plays for goals which was good to see,” Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell said. “I thought our ‘D’ defended well with good sticks and not giving their forwards much off the rush and in our ‘D’ zone. And our forwards created a lot of turnovers on the forecheck with their hard pursuit and good sticks also.

“That was ultimately the difference.”

Jets dominate weekend with home win over Cincinnati, road win over Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Metro Jets played two games over the weekend, one on home ice and one on the road.

The Jets defeated the Cincinnati Jr. Cyclones 9-1 Friday afternoon at Mount Clemens Ice Arena before heading to the Team Toledo Ice House Saturday night and defeating the Toledo Cherokee 5-3.

With the two victories, the Jets are now just two points out of first place in the Great Lakes Division, with two games in hand on first-place Toledo.

Down in Ohio, Ryan Glomboske scored twice and AJ Zaccagni added a goal and an assist to back Jakub Obzera’s 33 saves in goal.

Owen Coulter and Evan Cote added goals for the Jets.

“Big win tonight against a tough rival opponent,” said Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell. “Every time we play each other, it feels like a playoff game. We played well, and with the exception of a couple egregious mistakes and turnovers that led to goals for Toledo, I think we controlled the play for most of the game.

“We earned all our offense and got real solid goaltending. That’s a good recipe for success at this time of year.”

Jimmy Monks, Anthony Venturini and Jacob Myers scored for Toledo and goaltender Daxton Lucidi stopped 25 shots.

In the opener Friday, Zaccagni put up a goal and three assists, Aidan Charron two goals and an assist, and Enrick Fournier and Noah Bodurka a goal and two assists each.

Cote and Sutton Majeske each collected a goal and an assist, while Luka Pivec and Jaxon Stone posted one goal each.

Evan Peacock made 16 saves between the pipes.

For Cincinnati, Brady Smith scored in the third period and goaltender Camden Cox finished with 56 saves.
