MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – Louis-Pierre Fortier came to the Metro Jets ahead of the 2020-21 season from Montreal.

After two years of development in the crease, Fortier is off to play professional hockey in France after agreeing to terms with the Champigny Hockey Club for the 2022-23 season.

“For next year, I will try to adapt to playing with men, and I know the game will be faster,” Fortier said. “Also, the ice in Europe is bigger so I will have to adapt my game accordingly.

“I will do my best to give my team a chance to win night after night.”

During his two seasons playing for the Jets, Fortier went 31-4-2 with a 1.73 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage with seven shutouts. He added three more victories in the USPHL playoffs.

“We want to congratulate LP on his contract and opportunity,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “He was in a unique position with his college offers, but since he was already far ahead academically, this was an opportunity he wanted to explore. LP is a very talented and athletic goalie who won a lot of big games and faced some of the most difficult teams in the country for two straight years. He loves to compete and always holds himself to the highest standard.

“We wish him the best of luck and continued success.”

In reflecting on his time in the United States with the Jets, Fortier leaves with nothing but lifelong memories.

“The Jets helped me a lot to develop as a person as well as a player,” Fortier said. “I was surrounded by excellent coaches and players. I would like to thank the Jets for giving me two awesome junior years. I’m also very grateful to the Augustine family and the Naiman family for the past two seasons for taking me in and making me a part of their families.

“I’ll never forget my time with the Jets.”
