FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Joey Mocnik’s goal 2:31 into overtime lifted the MJDP to a 2-1 win over the Fort Wayne Spacemen Sunday night at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
Fort Wayne led 1-0 until Seth Francois (pictured below) tied the game at 12:38 of the third period.
That set the stage for Mocnik’s heroics.
“I hopped on the ice at Fort Wayne’s blue line and cut straight across the boards and received a great pass from (Max) Hartwell,” said Mocnik (pictured front). “Cut in and dropped it for Kam (Hellman) and he ripped the crossbar and I just buried the rebound.
“We started off slow and we were backed by (goalie Daniel) Miscavish all night. Francois had a great shift and ended up with the tying goal. We were buzzing after that and knew we’d win this one.”

Miscavish finished with 21 saves, while Spacemen goalie Cedric Lariviere made 32 stops in suffering the defeat.
“Yeah, a slow start but we ended up with the win in OT,” Metro Jets assistant coach Tina Ciraulo said. “We a had a lot of opportunities to put the puck in the net but their goalie played very well. We didn’t let the slow start stick with us. We finished strong and worked to get the win.”
The MJDP is next in action Tuesday at 2 p.m., hosting the Wooster Oilers.
