MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – The Metro Jets and MJDP each played one game this past weekend at Mount Clemens Ice Arena.
Both teams won, and in convincing fashion both nights with consecutive shutouts.
Friday night, the MJDP blanked the Battle Creek Kernels 3-0 with the Jets taking a 9-0 win Saturday night over the Cincinnati Jr. Cyclones.
“There is a lot more to come from both teams this season,” said Jets associate coach Tina Ciraulo. “We build on that every week and knowing both teams have a big weekend coming up, we just have to keep working on all the details.”
Josh Boze picked up a goal and two assists in the win Friday night, backing Taylor White’s 24-save shutout.
Alek John and Lukas Nies each went for a goal and an assist in the win.
For Battle Creek, Harber Cassel finished with 42 saves in suffering the defeat.
“For the first two periods, we didn’t have a lot of urgency,” said Jets associate coach Adam Morrison. “We saw a big difference there in the third with more excitement on the bench and more energy on the ice. We got to pucks quicker and got pucks through and were able to put three in.”
In Saturday night’s win, Yarne Vaerewyck and Ugo Lollier each scored twice, while Alex Schaumburger and Chad Noetzel posted a goal and two assists apiece.
Andreas Fleutot added a goal and a helper and Jake Taylor and Braydin Lewis also scored to back the combined 17-save shutout from Dylan Eliason and Karl Ullmann. Eliason started and made 12 saves before giving way to Ullmann 1:49 into the third period. Ullmann made five stops to preserve the shutout.
Michael Lucia, Joey Mocnik, Carson Finney and Nick Minghine all registered two assists for the Jets.
“It’s tough with games like that when you have so many penalties, but the guys did some great things, zipping the puck around a little bit, which was nice to see,” Ciraulo said. “We made some mistakes that we still need to work on, and we’re always looking to get better and better, but overall, I think the guys stuck with it and kept going with it.”
John Rampe and Blake Mitchell combined to stop 47 shots between the pipes for Cincinnati.

This coming weekend, the MJDP hosts the Fort Wayne Spacemen at Mount Clemens Friday at 7:30 p.m. before heading to play the Kernels Saturday at 7 p.m. from The Rink Battle Creek.
The Jets host the Toledo Cherokee Saturday at 5:30 p.m. from Mount Clemens before taking on the Wooster Oilers Sunday at 3:30 p.m. from the Alice Noble Ice Arena.
