MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. — All three Metro Jets teams took the ice this weekend, with the heavyweight matchup coming Friday night between the Jets and Toledo Cherokee.
In a tight game, the Jets defeated Toledo 2-1 at the Team Toledo Ice House.
River Lewis and AJ Zaccagni scored in the second period and goaltender Andrew Parmentier finished with 27 saves.
Landon Edwards netted the lone Cherokee goal and Austin Nowak made 37 saves in goal.
“Hard-fought, tough hockey game tonight,” said Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell. “The game could have went either way, just based on the chances each team had, but I feel our second period made the difference. We felt like we deserved a better result than being down 1-0 going into the first intermission, so we challenged our guys and they answered. They came out for the second with even more energy, tilting the ice, and eventually found the back of the net a couple of times.
“It wasn’t easy, though. Toledo’s goaltender was very good tonight, but so was ours when we needed him. ‘Cheese’ has been great all year and he bested the guy across from him tonight. We will enjoy the win tonight, take some rest this weekend, and then get back to work to prepare for next week’s Vegas Showcase.”
