TOLEDO, Ohio – The Metro Jets rallied from a 4-1 deficit and made it close in the third period but fell 5-4 to the Toledo Cherokee Wednesday night at the Team Toledo IceHouse.

Alex Schaumburger, Joey Johnson, Will Jentz and Nick Ceccarini all scored, while Will Augustine stopped 32 shots in suffering the loss between the pipes.

“Toledo was really good tonight,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “Credit to their goaltender (Joey Cormier, 35 saves) for standing on his head. Overall, we just didn’t capitalize on our chances and it was too little, too late. Too many penalties in this game and every time we got back to our game plan, we were back in the box. Games like this with so many times short-handed just eat away at the clock and when we finally got our power play in the last few minutes, it just wasn’t enough.

“I credit our guys for fighting adversity tonight, but we have to understand that teams are going to sell out against us, and Toledo was the better team tonight on the scoreboard because of that. This doesn’t change our process, and we get back to business as usual tomorrow.”

Drew Welsch registered two goals and an assist for Toledo, Bailey Byrd scored twice, and Tim Organ, Jr., chipped in a goal and an assist.

The Jets are now idle until next Tuesday when they travel to play the Pittsburgh Vengeance at 3:30 p.m. from the ErieBank Sports Park in Erie, Pa.
