The Metro Jets scored two goals in the first three minutes of Thursday afternoon’s game against the Columbus Mavericks and cruised to a 7-3 win to pad their lead in the USPHL Great Lakes Division.

The Jets lead the second-place Pittsburgh Vengeance by five points and have a game in hand.

Cody Mastay, Nathan Vazquez and Stefan Frantti all posted a goal and an assist, while Owen Limback (pictured front), Joey Johnson (pictured below) and Joey Carpenter all tallied two assists in the win.

“It was a pretty fun game,” said Mastay. “The first period, we went pretty hard and got three goals, and that was nice. The second and third got a little chippy, but it was a fun game and we can play through that.”

Jack Mueller, Alex Schaumburger, Jason Crossland and Nick Ceccarini added single goals to back Louis-Pierre Fortier’s 24 saves in goal.

For Columbus, Hayden Ripley had a goal and an assist and goaltender Zach Waizmann finished with 43 saves in suffering the defeat.

The Jets are now off until next Friday, Jan. 22, when they travel to play the Wooster Oilers at the Alice Noble Ice Arena for a 7:45 p.m. faceoff.
