CHICAGO, Ill. – Niko Murgic and Alex Schaumburger each had two goals with an assist to lead the Metro Jets past the Steele County Blades 9-1 Saturday night at Fifth Third Arena to conclude the USPHL Chicago Showcase.
Braydin Lewis had five assists, Andreas Fleutot added a goal and three assists, and Alex Bedenko scored two goals.
Kam Hellman and Herman Ahokas chipped in a goal each, while Ryan Messing and Tim Washburn collected a pair of helpers apiece.
In goal, Will Augustine finished with 19 saves.
The Jets outshot the Blades 40-20.
“Good way to go into our holiday break,” said Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell. “We got some goals from guys who have been unlucky lately and I think needed that boost or reward in their game.”
Going 3-0-1 at the showcase was a solid way to end the 2021 portion of the Jets’ schedule, said Lovell.
“Proud of how we approached this showcase,” he said. “We got better in every game and it’s a perfect time now for everyone to take a little break, heal up, and get some much-needed rest so that we’re prepared for the final showcase in Boston and the stretch run heading into playoffs.”
Earlier in the day at Fifth Third Arena, the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings shut out the MJDP 4-0.

Freddy Soderberg made 24 stops in goal in taking the loss.
Both teams now break for the holidays before taking the ice in Boston Jan. 7-9 for the USPHL Winter Showcase in Boston.
