MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – After three seasons with the Metro Jets, it’s time for Jack Rivera to take his game to a higher level.

Rivera, serving as the Jets captain this season, has committed to attend and play college hockey at Northwood University, a school located in Midland, Mich.

“The opportunity presented itself when their coach approached me with interest in my defensive play,” said Rivera, a Macomb, Mich., native who turns 21 on March 14. “I am most looking forward to playing for a hockey program and school that holds themselves to high standards in athletics and academics.”

From 2022-24, Rivera starred with the Metro Jets Development Program (MJDP), putting up eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points in 82 regular-season games, in addition to five goals and three assists for eight points in 15 USPHL postseason games.

This season with the Jets, Rivera has collected eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points in 35 games.

“On behalf of the entire Jets organization, we would like to congratulate Jack on his decision and future at Northwood,” said Jets head coach and GM Justin Quenneville. “His choice was not an easy one as he had several options to play and attend college around the country. In the end, Jack felt this was the best environment for him with regard to all the things that mattered most for his situation academically, hockey and financially. In the end, Northwood presented an offer he couldn’t refuse and we couldn’t be happier for him.

“Northwood is getting a true leader and person who has really developed on and off the ice to another level. Jack is a true testament to committing to the process when he started out with our Development Program and now graduates junior hockey as a captain and overall player ready to take his game to the college level.”

Rivera added that this commitment has been far from a one-man show.

“The Jets’ coaching and development have helped me not only improve my hockey skills and decision-making, but also have taught me to hold myself accountable and push myself to be the best version of myself, on and off the ice,” said Rivera. “Everything they have done for me will be invaluable in my transition to college hockey.”
