FRASER, Mich. – As the top scorer and captain at Allen Park High School last season, Joey Mocnik knew he would have junior hockey options for the upcoming 2020-21 season.
This past week, the 2002 birth year and Allen Park, Mich., native signed with the USPHL’s Metro Jets.
“I was on the lookout for teams and when I crossed paths with Metro Jets, I felt that they were the team I was most comfortable with,” said Mocnik. “The Jets have a great history behind them that I want to be a part of.”
As a senior with the Jaguars in 2019-20, Mocnik averaged nearly two points per game with 25 goals and 47 points in just 24 games.
Overall in 74 varsity games with Allen Park, Mocnik rang up 48 goals among 90 points.
Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville is confident that offensive prowess can translate to the junior hockey level.
“We started the conversation early in the offseason with Joey about an opportunity to play here,” Quenneville said. “We liked his skill set, offensive vision and scoring touch, obviously, but in talking with him, you can tell he wants to commit to the process and invest in his game. We look forward to working with him and giving him the platform to come here to bring his game to the next level.”

Mocnik said he doesn’t have any set goals for next season, choosing to keep his aspirations simple.
“I’m really excited to get back on the ice,” he said. “I can’t wait to bring my skills to the team. I just want to develop skills and hockey knowledge.”
Long term, Mocnik wants to keep developing to get his game college hockey-ready.
