FRASER, Mich. – Logan Davis moved downstate last summer to play for the Metro Jets with an eye on fine-tuning his game to be ready for college hockey.
After that one season, the 2000 birth year from Byron Center, Mich., is on his way back to the Grand Rapids area after committing earlier this offseason to Davenport University.
“I’ve been in contact with (Davenport coach) Phil Sweeney since my senior year of high school and stayed in contact with him throughout the season with the Jets,” Davis said. “At the end of the season, Coach Phil offered me a spot on their roster, and it came with a really great opportunity that I couldn’t pass up.”
During the 2019-20 season with the MJDP, Davis tallied six goals and 13 points in 40 games.
“(Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville) Coach Q talked to me throughout my senior year of high school and I knew if I went to the Jets that a very good opportunity to play for a college would present itself,” said Davis. “I thought my season with the Jets went really well and helped me get ready for the next level. I learned a lot, got a lot better, matured a lot, and a had a lot of fun.
“I hope to fit in nice and easily and hope the transition from playing on the Jets to Davenport will be nice and easy and smooth. I hope to fit right in with the team and become like family with them like I did with the Jets.”
“Logan came here looking to develop his game,” added Quenneville. “He matured a lot as the season progressed and noticeably got stronger throughout the year. It was a big jump from high school for him, but he took advantage of the platform here and became a consistent player down the stretch. His opportunity to develop here surely will give an edge over several players in college next year and we wish him the best of luck.”
In the classroom, Davis is eyeing an accounting curriculum.
Aside from the Jets staff, Davis noted more people to thank who helped him get to this point in his hockey and academic career.
“I thank everyone from my hockey family and from my family,” Davis said. “Everyone has played a role in my hockey journey and has helped make me the person and player I am today, and I don’t give them enough credit for it, especially my family.”
With summer in full bloom and college hockey right around the corner, Davis is keeping busy.
“I have been working out, shooting pucks at home, and finding ways to keep myself entertained with my brother,” said Davis. “My plans the rest of the summer are to work, work out, improve my game as much as possible to get ready for the season with Davenport, and have some fun with my friends and family.”
