The Ostrava Steel Hawks (VSB Technical University of Ostrava) are proud to announce the commitment of Christopher Kobayashi to the program.
A 2005-born player from Hillsdale, N.J., Kobayashi joins Ostrava after competing with the MJDP team in the USPHL Premier. Known for his work ethic and team-first approach, he brings valuable versatility and upside to the Steel Hawks roster.
“For me, Ostrava was the clear choice,” said Kobayashi. “The school offers exactly what I was looking for in both academics and hockey, which are both really important to me. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to be there while I continue my education and develop my game in a strong environment.”
The Steel Hawks are a Division 1 team in the EUCHL based in Czechia, a growing university league that offers student-athletes an opportunity to play high-level hockey and earn their degrees.
In two years playing for the MJDP team, Kobayashi put up 17 goals and 18 assists for 35 points over 82 regular-season games, with another three points in seven postseason games.
Ostrava director of scouting Zac Pearson spoke highly of the newest addition to the Steel Hawks.
“Christopher is the type of player that impacts the game in a lot of different ways,” said Pearson. “He competes hard, understands his role, and brings a strong team-first mentality every day. We see a lot of potential in him as he continues to develop.
“What really stands out is his versatility—he has the ability to play both forward and defense if we need him. That flexibility, combined with his hockey IQ and willingness to do whatever it takes to help the team win, makes him a valuable addition to our group.”
