WEST DUNDEE, Ill. – The Metro Jets opened the USPHL Chicago Showcase with a 3-0 win Thursday afternoon over the Hudson Havoc at the Leafs Ice Centre.

Alex Schaumburger went for a goal and an assist, while Anders Grongstad and the returning Tim Washburn scored one each to back Will Augustine’s 14-save shutout.

“It took us a while to get our legs going,” said Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell. “We seemed slow and just not ourselves, but fortunately it didn’t hurt us going into the intermission and we were able to capitalize on a Havoc mistake. In the second half, we started tilting the ice and our forwards did a better job keeping the puck below the dots and making plays offensively.

“Sometimes you don’t have your ‘A’ game, but good teams find a way to win with their ‘B’ game, and I think that was the case today. It’s only going to get tougher as the weekend goes, so we need to be ready tomorrow.”

In other action Thursday, the Minnesota Moose blanked the MJDP 3-0.

Mason Kelly finished with 21 saves in goal in taking the defeat.

Friday, each team plays two games as the Jets play the Moose at 10:10 a.m. Central from Fifth Third Arena and the Fort Wayne Spacemen at 5:50 p.m. from the Leafs Ice Centre, while the MJDP has the Toledo Cherokee at 12:20 p.m. from the Fifth Third Arena and the Northern Colorado Eagles at 7:50 p.m. back at the Leafs Ice Centre.
