MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – The MJDP started the second day of the USPHL Winter Showcase with a 5-2 win over the Hershey Cubs at the New England Sports Center.
That would be the lone win on the day as the MJDP fell later in the day, 5-1 to the New York Aviators, and the Metro Jets lost 4-1 to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights.
In the win, Austin Combs, Carson Finney, Tommy Purton, Nolan Bruxvoort and Steven Miller posted one each to back Ethan Ryan’s 34 saves in goal.
Hershey outshot the MJDP 36-35.
“The guys needed that game,” said Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell. “We needed to stop the bleeding, and we did it with a solid effort in all three zones. We drove the net and put traffic in front of their goalie and finally got some pucks to find the back of the net.

“Now, we want to build off this and continue to raise our game as the weekend progresses.”
Stone Bishop scored and Freddy Soderberg made 26 saves in the MJDP’s loss to the Aviators.
Against the Knights, Josh German scored and Louis-Pierre Fortier finished with 31 saves between the pipes.
Both teams wrap up the showcase Sunday with the Jets playing the Rockets Hockey Club at 9:30 a.m. and the MJDP playing the Florida Eels at 10 a.m.
