FRASER, Mich. – Tyler German’s goal with 8.8 seconds remaining in overtime lifted the Metro Jets to a 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Vengeance Saturday night at Fraser Hockeyland.
The win was the Jets’ fifth in overtime on home ice this season.
“We were out there for a while,” said German (pictured). “Jhuwon (Davis) made a nice play back door and I was just there to put it in. It was pretty nice.”
After a scoreless first period, Lucas Kirk gave Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead at 7:02 of the second period with a power-play goal before Justin Renzi tied it at 19:50 of the second.
A scoreless third period set the stage for German’s winner.
“We’ve been off for a while, so I’m glad that the guys were able to get the win tonight,” Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell said. “Pittsburgh always blocks a lot of shots and they get in the lanes, stuff like that. We did a good job tonight.”
Fredrik Meurling made 34 stops for the Jets, while Jacob Zab turned aside 36 shots for Pittsburgh.
The Jets and Vengeance play again Sunday at 12:45 p.m. back at Fraser Hockeyland, with the game being streamed on www.HockeyTV.com.
Earlier in the day, Josef Mehall scored twice as the MJDP Team doubled up the Wooster Oilers 4-2, also at Fraser Hockeyland.
Nick McDougall and Trevor Granzow also scored to back Will Augustine’s 31 saves in goal.
The MJDP finishes the regular season 27-17-0, good for third place in the Great Lakes Division.
