FRASER, Mich. – The Metro Jets and MJDP teams swept their way to three wins over the weekend.
On home ice at Fraser Hockeyland, the Jets defeated the Lansing Wolves 7-1 Saturday night and the Toledo Cherokee 6-4 Sunday afternoon.
The MJDP downed the Fort Wayne Spacemen 3-2 Saturday night on the road at the SportONE Parkview Fieldhouse.
In the Jets’ win over Lansing, Justin Renzi, Alec Lindecker, Nick Ceccarini, Jesper Svadang (pictured), Cam Conover, Brandon Bradley and captain Brodie Thornton scored and Machus Turner finished with 16 saves as the Jets outshot the Wolves 46-17.
“There were some good things that we did, but still some areas we can clean up,” Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “At the end of the day, we’ll take the two points and move on.”
Sunday afternoon, Svadang’s goal at 5:31 of the third period snapped a 4-4 tie and Trevor Granzow added an insurance goal at 8:50 as the Jets held Toledo off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Brady Hanson, Garrett Johnson, Josh German and Lindecker also scored for the Jets, while Will Augustine made 22 saves.
The Jets outshot Toledo 48-26.
“In the third period, we had to battle through a lot of adversity with penalties,” Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell said. “We did what we had to do to get the win. We know where we are in the standings and we need to start separating ourselves from some of these teams.”
Mitchell Hoon scored twice and Dylan Tegtmeyer netted the game-winning goal in his hometown Saturday night for the MJDP.
Kris Eberly turned aside 44 shots to gain the win in goal.
“We played a real good solid road game tonight,” Lovell said. “We’ve been trying to eliminate the big mistakes that lead to scoring chances and goals against and I think we did a good job of that tonight.
“Nice to see Dylan score the game-winner in his hometown. Moments like that make this game so great.”
Both teams are in action this weekend in back-to-back doubleheaders at Fraser Hockeyland.
The Jets host the Lake Erie Bighorns Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m., while the MJDP hosts the Chicago Cougars Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
All games will be streamed on www.HockeyTV.com with live updates on the USPHL app.
