FRASER, Mich. – The roster additions keep coming for the Metro Jets as the club prepares for the upcoming 2019-20 USPHL season.
Forwards Garrick Smith and Logan Davis signed with the Jets this week and coach-GM Justin Quenneville is excited to see what both can bring to Fraser this fall.
“Garrick skated with our spring development program and showed immediate interest in playing here this season,” Quenneville said. “He’s a tall, lanky player with a strong stride and good release. What intrigued us more was his positive attitude and willingness to learn. We are excited to continue working with Garrick and he will be a great fit here.
“Logan skated in our ID camp in the spring, and we noticed his skill set and work ethic immediately. After having a few conversations with him, we offered him the opportunity to play here this year. He is excited about his development this upcoming season and he’s eager to report. We like his leadership experience and feel like he will benefit from the Jets environment immediately.”
A 2002 birth year from Detroit, Smith skated in 2018-19 for the Victory Honda U16 team.
“I ended up signing with the Jets by coming out to the spring development camp and off of word from my good friend (and former Jets forward) Jhuwon Davis,” said Smith. “The success rate of player advancement and development appealed to me about the team. Also, I know that if you pay attention and listen, you will advance from the development of Coach Q and (associate head coach) Jaime Lovell.”
Smith describes himself as a team player, a perfect fit for Metro.
“I feel that I can be a player who can fill whatever role the team needs but will always do the little things, such as blocking shots and chipping pucks out,” Smith said.
Down the line, Smith hopes to play for an NCDC or NAHL team and eventually go to school to become an orthopedic surgeon.
Davis, a 2000 birth year out of Byron Center who played for Byron Center High School, said he did his homework when it came to looking at junior hockey options.
“I ended up signing with the Jets after doing a lot of research on a bunch of different teams and junior leagues and realized that the Jets would be the best fit for me as a player,” Davis said. “I really like how the Jets develop players and make them better each and every day. Also, I like how well players are able to move on during or after playing with the Jets. I know that the Jets have a winning culture and make a run in the playoffs.
“I feel I can bring a positive attitude, good work ethic, make plays, and some speed to the team this season.”
Like Smith, Davis has his future goals in a row.
“Short term, my goal is to become a better player and turning my weaknesses into strengths,” he said. “Long term, my goal is to play college hockey in the NCAA and get good playing time.”
