FRASER, Mich. – In the team’s annual Heroes Game, the Metro Jets defeated the Wooster Oilers 6-2 Saturday night at Fraser Hockeyland.
The game is dedicated to those that have served or are serving in the U.S. military and to those that have served or are serving as police officers, firefighters and first responders.
Jets captain Jeremy Schwartz and Jaylen Dziegelewski each scored twice, while Tyler German and Brady Hanson added single goals.
Justin Song and Justin Renzi added two assists apiece.
“Wooster is a physical hockey team and they come with a lot of speed,” said Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell. “I think we matched them a little bit. We weathered the storm in the first, did a good job in the second period coming back at them and then battled through the penalties in the third.”
Jets goalie Brian Tallieu stopped 25 shots for the win between the pipes.
“Up until the third period, they were throwing a lot of pucks at the net,” said Tallieu. “I just had to do my job.”
Zach Zwierecki and Grant Dickinson scored for Wooster and Michael Hubbard made 35 saves in goal.
In the first game of the afternoon, Kyle McCauley scored the lone goal and Anthony Carlier stopped all 30 shots as the MJDP Team downed the Toledo Cherokee 1-0.
The Jets next play Sunday afternoon at 12:45 p.m. back home against the Lansing Wolves, while the MJDP Team hosts the Detroit Fighting Irish this coming Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Fraser Hockeyland.
