FRASER, Mich. – After a scoreless first period, the Metro Jets came alive in the second and third periods and defeated the Toledo Cherokee 4-1 Saturday night at Fraser Hockeyland.
Brady Hanson, Justin Renzi, Brodie Thornton and Tyler German scored for the Jets, while Fredrik Meurling finished with 21 saves in goal.
“Tonight was a good win – everybody had a good game today,” said Hanson. “Everybody was working hard getting the puck to the net today and getting shots on net.”
Brendan Higgins scored the lone goal for Toledo early in the second that gave the Cherokee a short-lived 1-0 lead.
“I thought that we were pretty resilient tonight,” Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville said. “Guys were getting a little frustrated after that first period and credit to their goaltender for making some big saves that kept them in the game.
“We responded in the second and kept our foot on the pedal.”
Mason Snyder made 54 saves in the Toledo net.
In Lansing, Shane Haggerty’s goal with 1:40 to play in the third period capped a third-period comeback as the MJDP Team beat the Lansing Wolves 5-4 at The Summit Sports and Ice Complex.
Zack Kippe scored twice and Tanner Neill and Josef Mehall one each as Anthony Carlier (pictured) made 39 saves between the pipes.
The Jets next host the Pittsburgh Vengeance Feb. 16-17 at Fraser Hockeyland. Game times are 7:30 p.m. Saturday night and 12:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
The MJDP Team travels to play the Detroit Fighting Irish next Wednesday and Friday at the Brownstown Sports Center. Game times are set for 8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 p.m. Friday.
