Jets pick up big win on home ice Saturday night over Spartans, MJDP team falters in Battle Creek

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – Just two games were played over the weekend, as the Metro Jets defeated the Red River Spartans Saturday night at Mount Clemens Ice Arena and the MJDP team fell on the road to the Battle Creek Kernels, also on Saturday night.

The Metro Jets Elite team did not play last weekend.

At home, Jack Noonan, Jake Taylor and Alek John each scored two goals in a 13-1 win over Red River.

Pierce Ashcroft added a goal and three assists, Tim Monaghan a goal and two assists, and Matt Brougham three helpers to back Rostislav Efremov’s 24 saves in goal.

Efremov, who also assisted on Ashcroft’s goal, allowed just a second-period goal by Roman Templeton.

Donovan Ascensio and Luka Pivec added a goal and an assist each and Sutton Majeske, River Lewis and Brycen Smith also scored in the win.

Harry Dembowski, Gabe Outman and Isaiah Winters all posted a pair of assists each.

Red River goalies Andrew Young and Nicolas Bonneville combined to make 40 saves.

In Battle Creek, the MJDP jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Will Lobanov and Alessandro Evangelista, only to see the Kernels score the next five and take a 5-2 win at The Rink Battle Creek.

Ethan Carlone stopped 36 shots between the pipes for the MJDP.

Nate Fricke and Jakub Kurcab each had a goal and an assist for Battle Creek, while Arkadiusz Sobesto tacked on three assists and goalie Joe Weber made 40 saves.

Parker Eseex, Brendan Kelly and Logan Taylor added goals for the Kernels.

Next up for all three teams is the annual USPHL Detroit Showcase, set for Nov. 21-25 at Mount Clemens Ice Arena.
