Jets make record eighth straight trip to USPHL Nationals, eliminated after round robin play

WAYNE, N.J. – The Metro Jets made their USPHL-record eighth consecutive trip to the USPHL National Championships this past week, playing in the event at the Ice Vault in Wayne, N.J.

Unfortunately, the season ended Friday night for the Jets after going 1-2 in the round robin, losing to the Toledo Cherokee and Northern Cyclones and defeating the Fort Wayne Spacemen.

Opening up play on Wednesday, Toledo took a 4-3 win as Charlie Nolette scored twice in the first period and the Cherokee held off a late push from Metro to secure the win.

Robert Leis and Hank Davis added goals for the Cherokee, while Luka Pivec, A.J. Zaccagni and Jake Blum found the back of the net for the Jets.

Sutton Majeske assisted on all three Jets’ goals and Philip Hall finished with 24 saves in goal.

Cherokee goaltender Daxton Lucidi made 29 saves.

Thursday, the Jets’ offense exploded for five goals in the first period on the way to a 7-2 win over the Fort Wayne Spacemen.

Noah Bodurka posted two goals and an assist, Pivec scored twice, and Gabe Outman and Isaac Bunk each had a goal and an assist.

Ryan Glomboske scored and Zaccagni and Jets captain Jake Taylor registered two assists apiece.

Hall finished with 15 saves

Reid Hyde and Jace Lacey scored for Fort Wayne and Fort Wayne goalies Gleb Rakov and Antonio Vaccaro combined to make 27 saves.

Friday, the Northern Cyclones eliminated the Jets with a 6-1 win.

Bunk tallied the only Metro goal and goaltender Evan Peacock made 29 saves.

For the Cyclones, Giovanni Capraro and Dmitrii Novokov scored two goals each, Artem Borisov had a goal and an assist and Brady Stevens also scored.

Chase Darcey chipped in two assists and Oliver Andel stopped 29 shots.
