DIMONDALE, Mich. – The Metro Jets scored a pair of goals early and then held on the rest of the way to defeat the Lansing Wolves 4-2 Friday night at The Summit Sports & Ice Complex.

Jets captain Jeremy Schwartz (pictured), Cory Schwartz and Tyler German scored for Metro and Anthony Cinato added a late empty-netter to seal the win.

“We came out every shift like it was a new opportunity to create chances,” said Cory Schwartz. “Some made mistakes, but we had not one, but two strong goalies to back us up tonight.”

Brian Tallieu started in goal and he and Fredrik Meurling combined to make 33 saves for the Jets.

“Certainly wasn’t our best effort, but we’re happy we came away with a crucial two points in the standings,” said Jets associate coach Jamie Lovell. “We know we have games in hand on first-place Lansing, but games in hand are only good if you win them. We need to play a more complete game for 60 minutes. The effort we got tonight isn’t going to be good enough as the season goes on. Opponents will get better, games will be tougher.

“With that said, I’m glad we were able to find a way to win a close game despite being outplayed, which I think says something about the group we have.”

Zachary Rais and Jacob Deratany scored for Lansing and Sean Finstrom finished with 25 stops in suffering the defeat.

The two teams play again Saturday night at Fraser Hockeyland Puck drop set for 7:30 p.m.

“Lansing is looking to respond back for sure,” Schwartz said. “All of their losses this season are against us so we know we will get their best game each night. We want to continue the winning streak against them and complete the sweep.”

“We need to turn our focus to tomorrow night’s game and make sure we’re better,” added Lovell.
