LEWIS CENTER, Ohio — For the first time since joining the USPHL in 2019, the Columbus Mavericks defeated the Metro Jets Friday night, taking a 5-4 win at the OhioHealth Chiller North.

Brian Savage’s second goal of the game with 1:16 to play in the third period stood as the game winner for the Mavericks.

“Tonight was a tough game to stomach because there were just so many mistakes,” said Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell. “Completely uncharacteristic of what we pride ourselves in with this program, but we get to take this and learn from it and, hopefully, be so much better for it.”

Cory Anderson scored two goals for the Jets, who led 3-1 after the first period. Gianluca Virelli had a goal and an assist and Jaxon Stone also scored.

Evan Peacock finished with 36 saves in goal, suffering the loss.

For Columbus, Giovanni Valentine posted a goal and two assists and Beckham Spruill and Carter Holbrook scored one apiece.

Mavericks goaltender Jonah Little made 36 saves in the victory.
