FRASER, Mich. – Will Augustine stopped all 15 shots he faced and 10 different players scored as the Metro Jets romped to an 11-0 win Saturday night over the Lansing Wolves in their 2019-20 home opener at Fraser Hockeyland.
Tyler German scored twice (including the opening goal 21 seconds into the first period) and added an assist to pace the Jets’ offensive attack.
Every player, save for Augustine and two defensemen, recorded at least one point in the game.
“We were impressed with how our guys came out hungry tonight, but what was more noticeable from our staff was how everyone got involved and we had 10 different goal scorers,” Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville said. “Overall, we controlled the game and did a great job tilting the ice. Will also made his saves when we needed them. We know we won’t see games like this often, but we will take the positives out of it and focus on next week’s opponent.”
Justin Renzi posted a goal and two assists, while Brandon Bradley, Zach Rais, Nick Ceccarini, Trevor Granzow all had a goal and an assist.
In the blue paint, Augustine said it was all a matter of staying focused.
“I felt good out there, helping out the boys on the back end,” said Augustine. “You just have to feed off the energy of the scoring and stay hyped for those guys.”
Matt Cruz, Justin Song and Conner Graham scored one each and Matt Bleim, Cameron Conover and Brady Hanson chipped in two assists apiece.
Lansing goalies Andrew Kelly and Isaac Hyde combined to make 41 saves. Kelly started and was pulled after the first period when the Jets took a 6-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Jets next hit the road to play the Columbus Mavericks next Friday night at 8 p.m.
Also over the weekend, the MJDP traveled to suburban Chicago and dropped a pair of games to the Chicago Cougars, losing 9-1 Saturday night and then 8-2 Sunday night.
Trevor Naiman scored and Michael Paul made 48 saves Saturday night and then Mitchell Hoon and Danny Haack recorded goals Sunday with Ethan Ryan stopped 34 shots.
The MJDP is idle next weekend.
