TOLEDO, Ohio – The Metro Jets started off strong and held on for a 5-2 win over the Toledo Cherokee Friday night at the Team Toledo IceHouse.

Brady Hanson, Nick Ceccarini, Justin Renzi, Brandon Graham and Christian Rawling (pictured) all scored to back Fredrik Meurling’s 21 saves in goal.

“I thought we controlled the game but had some lapses periodically, especially in the second when we didn’t put them away and Toledo found life there for a bit,” Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville said. “Freddy made a couple big saves to keep the lead, and we really played well in the third as a group.  We managed the puck well down the stretch and I’m happy we won a tough game tonight.”

Jaylen Dziegelewski and Anthony Cinato added two assists apiece in the win.

For Toledo, Tyler Fox and Matt Gilbert scored, while Parker Simpson and Devon Bobak combined to stop 53 shots between the pipes.

“Tonight, I thought the ice was tilted to our advantage,” Jets forward Tyler German said. “I felt like we sustained a lot of pressure throughout the whole game. They will definitely come out harder tomorrow after a loss tonight. They’re still playing for something, so we need to be ready.”

The Jets host Toledo Saturday night at Fraser Hockeyland for a 7:30 p.m. start, while the MJDP Team travels to play the Lansing Wolves at 7:30 p.m.

Both games will be streamed on www.HockeyTV.com.
