MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – Fredrik Meurling stopped a penalty shot in overtime and then all five shots in the shootout to lead the Metro Jets to a thrilling 3-2 win over the Northern Cyclones Saturday night at the USPHL Winter Showcase at the New England Sports Center.

Jhuwon Davis tallied the winner in the shootout, while Justin Renzi and Brandon Graham scored in regulation.

“We came out hard and got on them 2-0, but just couldn’t bury another heading into the next period,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “We knew they would have a push back and when they scored a couple weak ones, their goalie kept them in it until the end. Credit to him, but in the end, Freddy made the saves when we needed him in the shootout and Jhuwon scored the big winner.

“We will take the two points and be better tomorrow.”

Final shots were 40-21 Jets.

Earlier in the day, the MJDP Team lost 3-0 to the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs.

Both teams continue play Sunday as the MJDP plays the New York Aviators at 3:50 p.m. and the Jets play the Connecticut Nighthawks at 5 p.m.
