FRASER, Mich. – On a night where the Metro Jets recognized and honored those affected by cancer in their annual Hockey Fights Cancer “Pink In The Rink” game, the players gave the crowd a spectacular game, culminating in overtime for a 5-4 win when Jhuwon Davis won it 1:45 into the extra session.

Anthony Cinato finished with two goals and an assist on Davis’ goal, while goaltender Fredrik Meurling made 14 saves on top of turning aside a Zachary Steele penalty shot early in the third period.

“I saw ‘AC’ go to the corner with the puck and it was kind of a 3-on-2 and I went to the front of the net and one-timed it,” said Davis. “I felt the boys played pretty good tonight, but we weren’t getting the bounces. Down two goals going to the third period, we battled back and this was a character win for us.”

Joey Bruce tied the game at 10:43 of the third period and Tanner Neill opened the scoring for the Jets at 14:36 of the first period.

The Jets led 1-0 after 20 minutes but trailed 4-2 after two periods.

“I think people got their money’s worth tonight,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “On a big night like tonight with a big cause we were playing for, it was nice to come away with two points. Not sure I liked our full 60-minute effort, but at the end of the day, a win’s a win.”

Cole Barney scored two goals for Wooster and Grant Dickinson and Dominic Zenone added singles.

Michael Hubbard finished with 34 saves in suffering the loss in the Oilers net.

Also Saturday, Sindo Martinez, Colin Day and Trevor Granzow scored, and Anthony Carlier made 40 saves, but the Metro Jets DP Team lost 7-3 on the road to the Lansing Wolves.

Friday night, Anthony Recchia and Brock Taylor scored and Michael Paul turned aside 27 shots as the MJDP dropped a 6-2 game in Toledo against the Cherokee.

The MJDP Team plays Sunday at noon on the road in Bay City against the Tri City Icehawks.
