CHICAGO – Both the Metro Jets and MJDP Team faltered Friday at the USPHL Chicago Showcase at Canlan Ice Sports.

The Jets dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to the Charlotte Rush, while the MJDP fell 1-0 to the Dells Ducks.

Against Charlotte, the Jets erased a 3-0 deficit on goals from Devlin Macaulay, Brodie Thornton and Matt Cruz (pictured).

“We did not come out ready to play – plain and simple,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “We told the guys that Charlotte was going to be ready since they hadn’t played in a couple weeks and we made a couple big mistakes early to hand them a 3-0 lead. We made Charlotte look really good and it’s unacceptable to show up to the rink not ready to go. We are not their babysitters – they are Jets and work ethic is not something we request every day. It’s expected.

“I’m proud of how they battled back from a 3-0 deficit, but when you give your opponent a chance to hang around, they just need a chance or a bounce to take the game. They got it in overtime and they deserved to beat us. We will be better tomorrow and every day after that.”

Brian Tallieu finished with 29 saves in goal.

For the MJDP, Will Augustine made 24 saves between the pipes.

“Will had a good game and gave us a chance to win, but we just didn’t capitalize on our chances,” Quenneville said. “You can’t win games if you don’t score, so we don’t have anyone to blame but ourselves.  I thought we moved the puck well, but we just didn’t finish on our looks. Credit to their goalie.”

Augustine agreed with his coach.

“I felt like we competed well with them and outplayed them most of the game, but we just didn’t capitalize on their mistakes,” said Augustine. “Positives we can take away from the game today was our pressure on their defense, forcing them to give the puck up and give us good scoring chances on their goalie.”

The MJDP wraps up the showcase Saturday with games against the Atlanta Jr. Kings at 11:10 a.m. Eastern and against the Decatur Blaze at 5:50 p.m. Eastern. The Jets play the Minnesota Blue Ox at 8 p.m. Eastern.
