FRASER, Mich. – Sixty minutes wasn’t enough time Saturday night between the Metro Jets and Pittsburgh Vengeance at Fraser Hockeyland.

The two teams played to a scoreless tie and went to overtime, where Jaylen Dziegelewski snapped a shot past Pittsburgh goalie Jacob Zab 1:45 in to the extra session to get the two points.

“Brodie (Thornton) made a great play in our zone and I found some empty space by the other team’s blue line and he put it on a dime,” said Dziegelewski. “I kind of got a good opportunity there on a breakaway and put it away.”

Kyle McCauley had the secondary assist on the goal.

Jets goalie Fredrik Meurling pitched a 32-save shutout, while Zab made 22 saves in suffering the defeat.

“It was a great game and the defenders made it easy for me,” Meurling said. “I think I made some good saves, but it was just a really good team effort. You have to make all the saves out there, and I was tired, but every save I made today was enough.”

“I think tonight's game was a good test for us,” said Jets coach Dan Pszenyczny. “We didn't know what to expect from Pittsburgh, but the boys came out focused and played hard all three periods. Freddy played a great game, stopping grade ‘A’ scoring chances and held us in the game and gave an opportunity to win.

“We caught a high break in OT with their ‘D’ falling and Jaylen getting a breakaway from the blue line in and finding the back of the net.”

The two teams rematch Sunday at 12:45 and the game will be streamed on www.HockeyTV.com and MRSN.us.
