FRASER, Mich. – The Metro Jr. Jets Bantam B team is MAHA District 3 champions.

The Jr. Jets, who won the championship on Feb. 5 on home ice at Fraser Hockeyland, are now off to the state tournament, which takes place in Houghton the weekend of March 9.

The Jr. Jets beat the Michigan Ice Hawks 8-0 in the first district game as the team came on strong in the first period and continued their scoring streak throughout the game. Team captain Alex Gomez scored five goals.

Game 2 of districts against the Rochester Serpents was another victory for the Jr. Jets, this time by a 9-0 count. The team once again started the first period in full force and continued throughout the game. Gomez was once again top goal-scorer, netting four goals. Determined to protect the net, the Metro defense and goalie succeeded, and another shutout was accomplished.

The third game against the Troy Rangers proved to be a strong battle. Once again, the Jr. Jets were able to block any puck from entering the net as the team’s defensemen and goaltender Ian Rafferty were at their best in a 4-0 victory.

Going into Game 4, the Jr. Jets were undefeated and once again faced off against the Ice Hawks.  In the first period, the Ice Hawks scored two goals, but the second period was rough for the Jr. Jets as Nolan Washington fell into the boards and was seriously injured.

Once the game resumed, the Jr. Jets tried to pull it together for another win but lost to the Ice Hawks 4-1.

Washington ended up with a fractured femur and had surgery, but the organization is glad to report that he is at home, resting, and rooting for his team.

After a 4-1 loss and injury of beloved teammate, the Jr. Jets went into Game 5 determined to win and rallied for a 7-2 win over the Ice Hawks as Josh Kochanski scored four goals.
