Jets, MJDP squads kick off USPHL Winter Showcase with wins Friday

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – The Metro Jets and MJDP opened play Friday with four games at the USPHL Winter Showcase, being held at the New England Sports Center.

The Jets defeated the Boston Bandits 6-1 and fell 3-0 to the Skipjacks Hockey Club, while the MJDP lost 5-0 to the South Shore Kings and then beat the Jersey Hitmen 1-0 in overtime.

In the Jets’ win over the Bandits, Metro scored four power-play goals as Jesper Svadang compiled two goals and three assists and Machus Turner made 23 saves in goal.

Conner Graham recorded a goal and an assist, Nolan Turi and Justin Renzi two assists each, and Matt Cruz, Zak Rais and captain Brodie Thornton one goal apiece.

Will Augustine finished with 35 saves in the 3-0 loss to the Skipjacks.

Michael Paul and Ethan Ryan combined to stop 35 shots in the MJDP’s loss to the Kings to start the day.

Brennan Zatelli netted the OT winner and Kris Eberly earned his first junior shutout as the MJDP knocked off the Hitmen Friday afternoon.

Eberly made 27 saves in the win.

Coming up Saturday, the Jets play the New York Aviators at 7:30 p.m., preceded by the MJDP facing the Connecticut Nighthawks at 5:40 p.m.
