PITTSBURGH – The Metro Jets took the game to the Pittsburgh Vengeance for the second straight day, dominating and outshooting Pittsburgh, and came away with a 5-2 win Sunday afternoon at the Alpha Ice Complex.

With the win, the Jets handed Pittsburgh its first regulation loss of the 2019-20 USPHL season.

Pittsburgh won 4-2 Saturday night as the Jets outshot the Vengeance 34-21.

Shots were 43-20 Jets Sunday.

“Here’s the thing – we have created a culture in our program and even around the league that when we lose a game, everyone questions, ‘What’s wrong with Metro? What happened?’ said Jets associate head coach Jamie Lovell.  “There’s nothing wrong. It’s hockey, and every game you have to be at your best and do the little things well all the time to be successful.

“We haven’t been doing those things. Our division is tough, competitive, and it’s been this way for years. Pittsburgh played well last night, they have the best record in the league, and we didn’t pay enough attention to the details to beat them.”

Sunday, Alec Lindecker scored twice to go along with singles from Jesper Svadang, Anthony Cinato and Justin Song, while Will Augustine made 18 saves in goal.

Svadang and Nick Ceccarini (pictured) scored Saturday and Machus Turner finished with 17 saves.

“Losing battles on faceoffs, along the walls, and being caught out of position in the neutral zone has cost us two games within our division,” Lovell said. “Today, though, we didn’t let that happen. We played with energy, physicality and a focus that had been missing in our game for a while now. It was a full team effort.

“We still have a lot of work to do as a team, but today was great step in the right direction. We will enjoy the trip home but then refocus and take this week to prepare for Toledo.”

The Jets play in Toledo Friday night at 7 p.m. and then host the Cherokee at Fraser Hockeyland on Wednesday night, Nov. 13, at 6:45 p.m.

In other action over the weekend, the MJDP suffered a 3-2 overtime loss to the Fort Wayne Spacemen on home ice Saturday night.

Mitchell Hoon and Mitch Forton scored in the loss and Ethan Ryan finished with 32 saves.

Alvon Barard notched the game-winner with 22 seconds left in the extra session.

“I am happy with the progress this group is making,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “However, they are still young and make young mistakes. It showed with a tough OT loss when we had a 2-0 lead heading into the third. We just didn’t capitalize on our chances to bury them and didn’t shut down their top guys in the final minutes like we had discussed between periods. In the end, we will take our point and learn from it.

"That Fort Wayne team is good and have very strong goaltending, so we will continue to get stronger every week and get ready for our next test.”

The MJDP team is idle this coming weekend.

All Jets games during the 2019-20 season will be broadcast on www.HockeyTV.com with live updates on the USPHL app.
