Wikman, Dziegelewski selected by Metro in annual NA3HL Draft; 16 tenders signed

FRASER, Mich. – The Metro Jets selected two players in last Tuesday night’s North American 3 Hockey League Draft and both have the potential to make positive impacts during the 2017-18 season.

In the second round (94th overall), the Jets took Brighton High School forward Keith Wikman before selecting Oakland Jr. Grizzlies 16U AAA forward (and former Jr. Jets standout) Jaylen Dziegelewski in the fourth round (150th overall).

Wikman (pictured) was a Division 1 All-State honorable mention in 2016-17.

Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville is excited with the picks and feels the draft was a success for the organization.

“The draft is always a fun process for us to gear up for,” said Quenneville. “This year, again, we stuck with our strategy to tender more players, which would allow to secure players prior to the draft. Both Keith and Jaylen were targets of ours and made impressions respectively. Both have high skill sets and hockey IQs, and we are looking forward to the final couple months heading into training camp.”

Quenneville noted that going into the draft, getting players that wanted to be Jets was the game plan.

“It always a unique time of year when the season ends and another begins,” he said. “We are fortunate that many players chose our program and look to continue their hockey careers with our platform. The difficult part is determining the players that best exemplify that culture in which we know we could help develop and advance. We want players that want to be here, that want to get better and that want to be challenged.

“The exciting time is gearing up in the off-season, but the fun part is getting to work players that are ready for that next step.”
