PEORIA, Ill. – The Metro Jets completed a weekend sweep of the Peoria Mustangs with a 3-0 shutout Sunday afternoon at the Owens Center.
Jets goalie Brian Tallieu (pictured) fashioned an 18-save performance for the win between the pipes, while Kyle Gierman, captain Griffin Sawyer and Trevor Momot all tallied power-play goals for Metro.
“That was a solid team effort today,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “We missed way too many chances to open the game up, but credit to Peoria for battling all game. ‘Tally’ made some big stops when we needed it, but that win goes to our PP tonight for the big goals. Overall, a huge weekend to get four points on the road against a good team, but we will regroup and get ready for Toledo on Friday night.”
Tallieu praised his blueliners in front of him.
“I’d like to give a shout out to the ‘D’ crew today,” said Tallieu. “They stepped up big on the odd-man rushes and the forwards did a great job blocking shots in key situations, which makes my job a lot easier.
“I felt really well in net this afternoon. Our goalie coach Randy Wilson always tells us (Andrew Kormos, Jacob McClelland and I) that warmups is where it starts for a game and that is where it started today. Peoria had a good number of chances and I had to do my job, which is to keep my team in the game and to do better than the other goalie, which resulted in a 3-0 win.”
The Jets play just one game next weekend, Friday night at 7 p.m. versus the Toledo Cherokee at the Team Toledo Ice House.
Streaming of the game will be available on www.hockeytv.com.
