Tallieu stops all 21, three different players score as Jets blank Pittsburgh Saturday

PITTSBURGH – Brian Tallieu stopped all 21 shots he faced to lead the Metro Jets past the Pittsburgh Vengeance 3-0 Saturday night at the Alpha Ice Complex.

Aaron Shahin, Joey Bruce and Jets captain Griffin Sawyer all scored and Robby Flannery (pictured) added two assists from the back end.

“That was a good team effort tonight,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “Naturally, we would have liked to capitalize on more of our chances, but their goalie (Caden Shell, 42 saves) played a strong game. We got timely goals from Aaron, ‘Brucy’ and ‘Soy,’ and also a couple big stops from ‘Tally’ down the stretch and on the last (penalty) kill. We will take it, rest up and come back ready for tomorrow.”

“I would just have to say that we used our team speed to our advantage and moved the puck well, just got the puck in the back of the net tonight,” said Shahin. “We played tight defensively and kept them off the board, which is really all you can ask for.”

The two teams play again Sunday at 11:40 a.m. with streaming of the game available on www.hockeytv.com.

“To keep the momentum going for tomorrow, I think as long as we go into the game like we did today, knowing that it’s going to be a tough game and take the 60 minutes one shift at a time playing Jets hockey, then I’m fully confident we come out tomorrow with another big two points,” added Shahin.
