Tallieu pitches shutout, Inger and Hansen score twice as Jets blank Cherokee Friday

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Metro Jets scored early and often and cruised to an 8-0 win over the Toledo Cherokee Friday night at the Team Toledo IceHouse.

Brian Tallieu stopped all 21 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season, while Connor Inger and George Hansen each scored twice for the Jets.

Hansen added an assist for a three-point game.

“I thought our guys did a good job coming out hard early,” Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville said. “We’ve been doing a better job as five-man units late in shifts, making the right decisions, and it’s paying off. Everyone got involved tonight and controlled the pace throughout the game. We know they will come out harder tomorrow, so we will refocus appropriately.”

Reggie Millette (his first with the Jets), Jhuwon Davis, Joey Bruce (pictured) and Jets captain Griffin Sawyer, with an assist, added single goals, while Jake Stawinski, Marc Schwartz and Anthony Cinato all recorded two assists.

“On the ice, it felt like an 8-0 game,” Hansen said. “The boys moved the puck well, especially in the first period. I think that tomorrow will be a little tougher. I think Toledo will come at us with a lot more.”

Toledo goalies Alan Brouillette and Ricardo Gonzalez combined to make 39 saves.

The two teams rematch Saturday night at Fraser Hockeyland with a 7:30 p.m. opening faceoff.
