Sunday action sees Metro captain Day score four goals as Jets sweep Xpress

FRASER, Mich. – The Metro Jets led 10-0 after two periods and cruised to a 14-0 rout of the Southern Tier Xpress Sunday afternoon to complete the weekend sweep at Fraser Hockeyland.

Jets captain Graham Day scored four goals (all in the second period), while Mathias Tellstrom added three goals and two assists and Connor Inger notched two goals and three assists.

“It’s frustrating for a coach because you always want a competitive game,” said Metro coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “You want to score goals and win, but clearly they (Southern Tier) had given up there in the second when we broke it open (with seven goals). A lot of it for us is trying to maintain good standards in how we play, roll over the shifts quickly and get guys out there, but also play smart, don’t be stupid.”

Louis Boudon added two goals and two assists and Jake Gleason and George Hansen posted a goal and an assist apiece.

Cam Schwartz scored once to go along with three assists each from Jason Recchia and Dylan Naumovski and two helpers out of Trevor Momot, Marc Schwartz and Chase Sereno.

Day (pictured) gave credit to his linemates for his offensive outburst.

“It was mostly my teammates setting me up,” said Day. “Teammates like Trevor Momot and Louis Boudon give me confidence to shoot the puck and Chas (Distelrath) finds me in open areas, plus I had a little luck with the puck.”

In goal, Jake Gwillim started and stopped all eight shots before Brian Tallieu came in midway through the second period and turned aside all eight shots he faced.

Xpress goalies Harrison Vangellow and Ryan Pascarella combined to stop 46 shots.

The Jets wrap the regular season next weekend with a home-and-home series against the Wooster Oilers. Game time Friday night in Wooster is set for 7:45 p.m., while Saturday night’s annual Heroes Game in Fraser gets underway at 7 p.m.

“The event itself is always exciting and we expect a lot of people there,” said Quenneville. “Of course, we want to win and we want to do it the right way. I think we’re all excited for next weekend.”

Both games next weekend will be streamed on www.hockeytv.com.
