Schwartz, Limburg lift Jets past Twin City

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Metro Jets moved to 2-0 in the Pool B round robin with a tough 2-1 win over the Twin City Steel Thursday night at the NA3HL Silver Cup Championship Tournament at Canlan Ice Sports.

Kam Limburg made 27 saves in net and Cam Schwartz finished with a goal and an assist. His goal at 12:45 of the second period proved to be the game winner.

“We were just involved in a hard-fought game tonight,” said Jets forward Devin Kelly, who opened the scoring at 7:48 of the first period. “Both teams had a lot at stake and we just came out on top. We knew they had talented forwards so it was important to put pressure on them and not give them time and space. St. Louis is a team we don't know much about, so we have to come out hard tomorrow and play our game and we'll see what happens.”

Metro and the Jr. Blues play Friday at 5 p.m. EST to wrap up the round robin. St. Louis lost 4-2 Thursday to the Texas Jr. Brahmas.

“That was a gutsy win in a tight playoff game,” added Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “We had some big kills and got a couple big saves to keep the lead.  Would have been nice to spread it a little when we had our chances, but their goaltender (Gunnar Howg) kept them in it. Our guys did the little things tonight and played smart. We will rest tonight and ready for St. Louis tomorrow.”

Howg finished with 21 saves for the Steel and Nick McKeeby (a Brighton native) scored on a second period power play for Twin City’s lone goal.
