Jets upend ‘stingy’ Southern Tier team, come away with two points Saturday night

FRASER, Mich. – Griffin Sawyer scored twice and added an assist to lead the Metro Jets to a 6-2 win Saturday night over the Southern Tier Xpress at Fraser Hockeyland.

Evan Newel and Louis Boudon added a goal and a helper each in the win.

“Overall, this time of year, we just have to win games and play tighter hockey,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “I think we had some lapses throughout the game and Southern Tier works hard. They have some stingy players and they don’t give you much room out there.”

Chas Distelrath and Connor Inger scored one apiece and Stefan Boskovic (pictured) contributed two assists.

In goal, Andrew Kormos started and made 10 saves in 40 minutes before giving way to Brian Tallieu, who stopped seven shots in the third period.

“I think we started strong and we took advantage of a few opportunities quickly to get things going,” said Sawyer. “The second period was a little bit tougher and then in the third period, we worked hard and did the little things and came out with a nice win.”

Southern Tier goalie Ryan Pascarella finished with 38 saves in suffering the defeat.

The two teams wrap up their weekend series Sunday at 12:15 p.m.
