FRASER, Mich. – The Metro Jets’ top line of Matt Schaumburger, Connor Inger and Griffin Sawyer combined for 13 points Sunday afternoon as the Jets downed the Peoria Mustangs 6-1, completing a weekend sweep at Fraser Hockeyland.
Schaumburger (pictured) scored four goals, Inger posted five assists and Sawyer added a goal and three assists in the win to back Andrew Kormos’ 21 saves in goal.
“We came out with a good first period, played the right way, kept it simple,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “We had good puck support and tilted the ice really well. That gave us not only an early lead, but kept the pressure on them. It’s always good to be up on a team early and we just kind of rode that wave a little bit.”
Jeremy Schwartz also scored and George Hansen contributed a pair of assists from the blue line.
Jack Radley scored a shorthanded goal for Peoria, while Dakota Meyer stopped 35 shots in suffering the defeat between the pipes.
The Jets finish out the home portion of the regular season home schedule next weekend with a pair of games against the Southern Tier Xpress. Game times are 7:30 p.m. Saturday and then a 12:45 p.m. matinee Sunday.
Streaming of the games will be available on www.hockeytv.com.
“I’m definitely happy for the guys heading into this week because there is purpose,” said Quenneville. “No question, Southern Tier is going to be interesting and there’s a good chance we’ll see them in the playoffs. We’ll adjust accordingly this week.”
