FRASER, Mich. – The Metro Jets completed the weekend sweep of the Wooster Oilers with a 5-2 win Saturday night at Fraser Hockeyland.
Chase Sereno (pictured) and Griffin Sawyer each registered a goal and an assist and Andrew Kormos, named last week the NA3HL Goaltender of the Month for October, made 26 saves for the win in goal.
“The end goal was to win the game,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “The guys did that and of course, there were some delays in the third period, but it was kind of as expected. We played through it and no one got hurt. We’re good to go. We’ll take our four points and move forward.”
Kristian Alafriz, Robby Flannery and Cam Schwartz also scored for the Jets.
For Wooster, Tyler Kallay and Nick Mooney scored and goaltender Mike Hubbard stopped 40 shots in suffering the defeat.
Jets captain Graham Day said battling was key tonight.
“It’s important to (keep getting points), even against teams that might not be viewed as good competitors – they still come at you hard and you still have to work hard,” said Day. “It was close at the beginning tonight (Metro held a 2-1 lead midway through the first period), but we just had to battle through and coming out with the four points is great.”
Next weekend, the Jets play on the road Friday night in Battle Creek against the West Michigan Wolves and then return home Saturday night at 7 p.m. to play the Southern Tier Xpress.
