Metro moves to 2-0 at NA3HL Showcase after 7-2 win Monday over Nordiques

BLAINE, Minn. – The Metro Jets won their second straight game at the NA3HL Showcase, downing the L/A Nordiques 7-2 Monday afternoon at the Schwan Super Rink.

Connor Inger tallied two goals and two assists, Jets captain Griffin Sawyer (pictured) two goals and Matt Schaumburger added a goal and two assists in the win to back Brian Tallieu’s seven saves in goal.

“Another good game by the guys tonight on both sides of the puck,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “I thought we did a good job maintaining offensive pressure throughout the game. Other than a couple hiccups, we stuck to the game plan and were rewarded for it. ‘Burger,’ Sawyer and Inger were solid tonight and put up big numbers.”

Metro defensemen George Hansen and Kyle Gierman each posted a goal and an assist.

Schaumburger, who joined the Jets last week, now has two goals and five points in three games.

“It’s been really easy to adjust just because I’m playing with great linemates (Inger and Trevor Momot) and they make my job really easy – that has been a huge help,” said Schaumburger. “Today was a big win. Being 2-0 rather than 1-1 going into the last game of the Showcase is a big confidence boost for the guys. We played a solid defensive game and worked from there to create offense, which I think was the biggest positive to take out of that game.”

Nordiques goalie Sage Broda made 18 saves, while Cole Ouellette and Nick Ventura scored.

The Jets wrap up the Showcase Tuesday, facing the New Ulm Steel at 4:30 p.m. EST.
