Limburg stops 24 in Friday's victory

GENEVA, Ill. – The Metro Jets evened their record at the NA3HL Silver Cup tournament to 1-1 with a sound 3-1 win over the Great Falls Americans Friday afternoon at the Fox Valley Ice Arena.

Matt Dempsey scored 37 seconds into the game, while Alex Holm and Zach Koonce added goals in the second period for the Jets.

"Good character win tonight,” Metro head coach Justin Quenneville said. “We came out of the gates with more energy today and it paid off with an early goal. We lost momentum a couple times because of soft penalties, but our penalty kill (8-for-8) and goaltending was solid again tonight. Overall, I'm pleased with how we responded after such a poor effort yesterday that resulted in a tough double OT loss, but we are back in it now and that's all that matters."

Jets’ goaltender Kam Limburg stopped 24 shots to get the win between the pipes and Tyler Layle contributed two assists from the blue line.

“I felt really good out there,” Limburg said. “I was tracking the puck well and was making the saves I needed to make to keep my team in the game.”

Cody Page scored for Great Falls (0-2) and goaltender Jordan Moran made 29 saves in suffering the defeat.

On Saturday, the Jets wrap up pool play at 2 p.m. EST against the Granite City Lumberjacks.

“We prepare for tomorrow by just doing what we've been doing,” added Limburg. “We've had a lot of success recently, so I think sticking to the same formula will help us keep doing well.”
