PEORIA, Ill. – Andrew Kormos was again stellar in goal and the Metro Jets swept the Peoria Mustangs with a 5-0 win Sunday afternoon at the Owens Center.
Kormos stopped all 30 shots he faced, while Mathias Tellstrom and Chase Sereno each recorded a goal and an assist in the win.
“I think the team felt really well and we just wanted to continue on our momentum from yesterday,” Kormos said. “We came with energy and kept it going. These wins are big for us, getting to play an out-of-division team was a big test, and now we just have keep our momentum rolling into next weekend.”
Trevor Momot, Louis Boudon and Jason Recchia also scored for the Jets and Cam Schwartz picked up a pair of assists.
“I’m proud of the guys for finishing the weekend on the right note,” Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville said. “Taking four points from Peoria wasn’t easy, but we had solid special teams and two big games by Kormos. He didn’t see many pucks this weekend, but the ones he did were short bursts or on the penalty kill, and he was by far our best penalty killer.
“We will take the wins and head home to get ready for Toledo Friday.”
Metro plays the Cherokee at the Team Toledo Ice House Friday night at 7 p.m. before hosting the Pittsburgh Vengeance at Fraser Hockeyland Saturday night at 7 p.m.
