Kormos pitches ninth shutout, adds assist as Jets blank Toledo Wednesday

FRASER, Mich. – Andrew Kormos notched his ninth shutout of the season as the Metro Jets blanked the Toledo Cherokee Wednesday night at Fraser Hockeyland.

Hayden Winch, Chas Distelrath and Louis Boudon (pictured) all scored for the Jets, while Kormos stopped all 15 shots he faced and also assisted on Boudon’s goal late in the second period.

“The guys obviously responded well after last weekend and we got one quick practice in this week before tonight,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “A short work week is always good because your mind is always right. We had a good start to get ahead on them early. We knew Toledo wouldn’t lay back and they pushed and we got some saves from ‘Kormy’ when we needed them and took care of the rest.”

Kormos still leads the NA3HL with his nine goose eggs, 0.90 goals-against average and .962 save percentage.

Jets defenseman George Hansen said the key to tonight’s win was solid play on the back end.

“We got the pucks ‘D’ to ‘D,’ moved them up fast and everyone made plays,” said Hansen. “We just keep doing what we do and that’s it. Just stay focused and just play our game.”

Roman Malkov stopped 36 shots for Toledo before Adrian Morales played the final 6:57 and stopped all four shots he saw.

Metro now travels to West Michigan to play the Wolves Friday night at 7 p.m.
