FRASER, Mich. – The Metro Jr. Jets Midget B team has punched its ticket to the MAHA State Playoffs with a win over the St. Clair Shores Bruins in the District 3 final on Feb. 4 on home ice at Fraser Hockeyland.
State playoffs run March 9-11 in Marquette.
The best-of-three series started with the Jets winning a lopsided Game 1 by a 6-1 count.
Game 2 was an entirely different game.
The first period saw great back-and-forth action with both goalies making great saves and it was 0-0 heading into the second period.
After battling most of the second period scoreless, Jets co-captain Bryce Wendt skated the length of the ice, made a move on the SCS defender and lifted a nifty backhand over the goalie’s right shoulder for a 1-0 Jets lead.
Heading to the third with a 1-0 lead, co-captain Chase England streaked down the right side and fired a low, hard shot at the feet of the SCS goalie and found the back of the net for a 2-0 Jets lead.
SCS would not be denied and at the 3:49 mark of the third, the Bruins notched their first goal of the game, making it 2-1.
With the goalie pulled, SCS was on full attack and Jets goalie Joey Sworst stood strong as he was peppered with shots. In the waning seconds of the game, Jets forward Scotty Willey hit the open net to secure a 3-1 lead and a District 3 championship.
The Midget B Team is coached by Gary Zerilli, Joel Burkey, Matt DeMers and Ron Kwasnik and managed by Scott Andrews.
