JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – Six players recorded multiple points and Andrew Kormos stopped all 18 shots he faced as the Metro Jets swept the Southern Tier Xpress with an 8-0 shutout Saturday night at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena.
Trevor Momot, Joey Bruce, Jeremy Schwartz, Jhuwon Davis and Anthony Cinato all had a goal and an assist, while Rhett Limback added a pair of assists.
“A much better effort tonight, especially as the game progressed,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “I thought several guys looked good out there tonight like Cinato, Limback and Schwartz. Kormos made some big saves to earn the shutout, but overall, we felt everyone contributed tonight and played harder on both sides of the puck. Southern Tier is a well-coached team and you can see it, but we were able to push the pace as the games went on and ultimately was the reason why we opened up the scoring 5-on-5 all weekend.”
Connor Inger, Mathieu LaForest and Brandon Graham also scored for the Jets.
“I thought tonight, the pace was a lot faster and we gave up less shots, which helped the goalie all the way out and got some momentum and never gave them an inch to breathe,” Cinato said. “My personal progress I feel has been very successful, from getting to a routine and to continue getting bigger every day in the MAT and working on skills in practice, which I feel has made this transition from youth hockey a lot easier.”
Brandon Heacock and Ryan Pascarella combined to stop 64 shots in the Xpress crease.
The Jets next play Friday night in Toledo against the Cherokee at 7 p.m. and then back home at Fraser Hockeyland Saturday night at 7 p.m. against the Lansing Wolves.
