BLAINE, Minn. – It was a record-setting evening for the Metro Jets Sunday at the NA3HL Showcase at the Schwan Super Rink.
With their 3-0 win over the Texas Jr. Brahmas, the Jets set a USA Hockey Tier II record with their 28th consecutive win, surpassing the old record of 27 set by the North Iowa Bulls.
“I’m extremely proud of the entire group and thankful for all the help from the coaching and our owner, Pete Cammick,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “None of this is possible without everyone buying in and it’s a pretty remarkable achievement for this group to reach this record. Naturally, tonight’s game was won with a couple key saves by Andrew (Kormos) and timely goals by ‘Gammer,’ ‘Bosko’ and ‘Telly,’ but overall, I’m proud of how the guys kept their composure all weekend and walked out of here accomplishing the goals up to this point.
“We will enjoy the break and look forward to getting back on the ice.”
Collin Gamrat, Stefan Boskovic (pictured) and Mathias Tellstrom scored Sunday and Kormos finished with 24 saves in goal.
“It’s good seeing more and more competition at the showcase every year, especially with the new format where you play the same seeded teams,” said Metro captain Graham Day. “It can showcase the team’s ability to play in big games.
“This weekend was a big three wins for our team. While we knew who we were playing and what the games meant, we just took it one game at a time and played as if they were just another game. Everyone stepped up when we needed it and they were all team wins.”
The Jets now break for the holidays before getting back to game action Jan. 7-8 in Cincinnati.
All games will be streamed on www.hockeytv.com.
