Jets pop four goals in the first, hang on to edge Peoria Saturday night on the road

PEORIA, Ill. – The Metro Jets did all their scoring in the first period and held on the rest of the way for a 4-3 win over the Peoria Mustangs Saturday night at the Owens Center.

Devlin Macaulay, Anthony Cinato, Jhuwon Davis and Jets captain Griffin Sawyer (pictured) tallied over the first 20 minutes and goaltender Andrew Kormos finished with 25 saves for the win in goal.

Davis also had an assist to record a multi-point game.

The Jets led 4-1 after 20 minutes and 4-3 after 40 minutes with the third period scoreless.

“Big two points for the guys tonight,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “Everybody got involved and contributed. Overall, I would have liked to put the game away on our chances, but credit to Peoria for battling and giving us a full 60 to earn the win. Hopefully, we take that as a lesson tomorrow and take advantage throughout tomorrow. Big win, but our guys will rest up for a short turnaround game tomorrow.”

Peoria goalies Jaden Gardner and Dakota Meyer combined to make 36 saves in the loss.

The two teams wrap their weekend series Sunday afternoon at 2:15 p.m. EDT.

Streaming of the game will be available on www.hockeytv.com.
